Just thinking the next time someone asks me why I did'nt get the Adventurer I'll tell them it could'nt handle the new tank bags :D

Yeahh, yeahh, right!

I asked my local dealer to check my understanding of what fits what, He sent me this pic and although bm only list these for the gs, the tank bags fit nice. It looks good with this small version and only £85.

So after reading this wonderful topic carefully (and one on ADV rider), I approached my dealer and simply ordered the -149 model (replacing the 604) and it was delivered within 1 working day. I am pleasantly surprised by this bag. It is not as big as I expected (thankfully) and has this neat zipper to expand it to full size. A flexible hook comes out of the front strap to attach this bag under the VIN plate and a zipper keeps it secured on the other side. Already had the pleasure to drive it in rainy conditions and I can conclude it's waterproof. Glad I got it !:D

Just bought the BMW one....

Bought the Touratech (Kahedo) waterproof one initially but sent it back as I thought the quality was very poor for the price and it snagged the crossbar on my handlebars!

Just got the BMW one which was cheaper (!) and far better quality. Unfortunately it doesn't have the nice bungee cords for your gloves which was a great feature of the TT one, but I can live without these.

The new BMW one definitely looks a lot better than the older monstrosity. Would you happen to have a part number for this one? I've tried looking on the websites but they're all still showing the older model. Thanks.

JUST FOR INFORMATION.

The latest 2008 SMALL SIZE GS Tank Bag WILL FIT a GSA!

You have to buy the sticky back attachment thingy from the FIRST GENERATION GS tank bag to make it fit. It is two separate parts. (comes to something like £15 + VAT all together)

I listed the part numbers on here somewhere but I can't seem to find my post

No issues with the bag on a recent trip. 100% waterproof. It is very small so only good for bits and bobs. The GSA bag can be an extra bit of luggage space because it is so big.

I can recommend the Touratech Waterproof tankbag. It is quite expensive, but is easy to use and appears to be well made. Waterproof inner bag is reasurring for heavy rain and the map pocket is a good size.

I tried out the GSA tank bag (big one) for size and found that it was positioned way too far back on the tank and stopped me leaning forward. It intrudes into the seating area and therefore I would not consider it.

Take a good look at the photos earlier in this post and see how far back it sits on the tank to prevent the bars fouling the tank bag.

Not good for me

:(

Good news for all!

Having just popped into Coopers to see the new tank bag, the parts person told me that there was no new small tank bag for the GS12? 'No definately not on the system', as he sat looking at his screen! A bit embarassing for him as directly behind him sat on the shelf were both new versions. :P

I offered both versions up to the bike and decided upon the new small version, as I don't personally like large bags on the tank, and found the bigger version does tend to sit quite a way back on the tank, I prefer sitting forward. So the small one was my choice, great fit, quality and no need to use the old velcro system!:clap

I had an SW Motoech engage bag on my old model, and really rated it, but as the fitting system has changed on the new bikes I sold it to a mate for his 06model. But SW Motech have now just released a new mount for the 08 bikes, but the mounting horseshoe clip, without electrics, costs £45 before buying a bag:eek:

So on balance I decided for the small BM one at £85. For the GSA owners I saw an article on Advrider site showing how to modify the new lower mounting bracket of these new bags so that it can be fitted to the GSA model (without needing to use the velcro pad thingy).

So good news for all then - two types of bags that are good quality, work and fit really well. Can be fitted to both models (with a little modification) and SW Motoech's bags can now be fitted to the new 08 bikes.:clap

Pay yor money and take your choice!

I reckon all this 'confusion' regarding the BMW tank bags could be resolved if BMW clearly listed the bags they have for sale. Of course they normally have a great reputation for top quality brochures clearly showing their products - but for some reason the current 1200 GS tank bags are not all shown.................I wonder what went wrong?
