But i have entered a mine field of technicalities!
If i get a sw motech bag it also tells me i need to buy more stuff, but its not clear how the bag is attached, etc.
any helpful advice greatly appreciated.
cheers in advance

I use a small SW Motech bag which suits me fine for my camera gear.

I bought a Touratech bag for the 1150 a few years back and whilst the bag lives in the house I left the base bit that fixes to the bike in the garage.

Got it out on Saturday and it has been attacked by a bloody mouse or a family of the rodents and is chewed to buggery round the edge. Feckers.

It's not cheap but is expandable if you need just that extra bit of space.

you could try martin at a company called windingroads.co.uk he does a full range of bags with the brand name FAMSA i have had the current one for 3 years and i have not been disapointed a lot less expensive than some of the big names ,seems quality and value to me :beerjug:

Wolfman Explorer Light (from Windingroads) is a good compromise- doesn't get in the way too much but holds enough, see pic attached of mine on an 1150. It's strap mounted- I just tuck em away when not needed. You can see on the pic where the zip line is on the expansion er, gusset- it's pretty small and neat in unexpanded mode.

I had a FAMSA bag on my R1200GS and it was indeed a good bag but I far prefer the SW Motech mounting system. Its quicker for refuels and doesn't get in the road as much. Not a fantastic amount less space with the SW Motech bag either. Even the small SW Bag I have has a considerable amount of useable space in it and can expand further. Excellent for Photo Equipment as it just clips off and is easy to carry around. Depends how much you want a tank bag to hold I reckon.

SW Motech, superb..

I, but do you take it off at night? :D

looks good so I've just ordered one tonight.....:beerjug:

I think you will be happy with it. I like the SW Motech Daypack I bought and find it great for a Camera with Lens attached and another spare lens plus filters & Flashgun. Easy to detach from bike and carry around. Do fancy the GS bag but think I'll get by with the Daypack on holiday. Looking at the HG catalogue I picked up at the show yesterday, it seems the mounting system is changing slightly.

I got mine fitted a couple of days ago, it took about 2 and a half hours to fit, a fair bit of wiring, drilling and me pacing outside the workshop!
it then took about 20 mins to suss out how to attach the bag to the mounting ring, its a bit tricky as you cant see the locating ring from above, i suppose it will get easier with more experience.

I bought the Famsa tankbag for my GS and it's a nicely made piece of kit, but I found the SW Motech bag on my K1200S much easier to remove when refuelling, although the build quality isn't as good.

Although there's a big price difference, I wish I'd bought the Motech bag for my GS as it would be so much more convenient to use.

When you buy the bag you will need to drill a small hole to let the electrics through, I filled the hole in using a glue gun and it has never leaked.

***Important bit **** Remember to change the spring loaded pin with the one that has the magnet in it, otherwise the relay will not switch on when you connect the bag. ******

This will make more sense when you come to bolt it all together!
