Tank Capacity - How much in this one

I'd assummed the tank I've just fitted was 23.5 lt however 3 miles after it went onto reserve I filled up and it took 23.4 lt.

Any idea what the capacity is?

BTW... The tank works realy well, it allows more steering lock than the 19.5 lt tank taken off and with a full tank today I was hitting dips that used all the suspension travel and everything stayed in place and felt great.

is one of the pipes cut off on fuel tap or did I fit 2 RH fuel taps

I've not looked at the taps... would that mean that it has no reserve on one side?... that would account for it taking so much fuel just after going on reserve.

From memory, the RH tap goes onto reserve first, then the RH. But can't remember what the capacities are

Page 7 of his PDF states 5.7 gals with 1.2 gals in reserve

but 5.7 UK gals wuld be 26 lt and 5.7 US gals would be 21 lt

The US gallons are smaller than imperials, so it is best to stick to liters.

There are two plastic stand pipes in each tap which fit into the two holes in the top of the fuel taps, and the length of these determines the reserve situation.

The stand pipe in the hole in the tap which is in use when the tap is in the reserve position is shorter than the other, and on my bike it is still around 35mm long.

So with it in place there will always be around 35 mm of fuel in the bottom of the tank which you cant access.

Unless you remove the tank , lay it on its side, take the tap out and remove the tube. Dont ask.

I assume that the tubes are there to stop any sediment in the bottom of the tank getting through to the taps and the carbs, but there is a gauze filter in the tank over the standpipes , another in some types of taps, and most people seem to fit in line filters these days, so there may be a degree of redundancy with the shorter standpipes.

I never got round to replacing mine, and no problems so far.

My 93 GS has a similar tank to the one in the picture, and even after running it dry with the standpipes removed it only takes 22 litres to fill it, but other people have reported getting 23 1/2 litres in after running it dry , without removing the standpipes , so you are just going to have to suck it and see.
