Has anybody experienced a problem with the clips that the screws fasten into onto the centre console / false tank cover. I removed mine last night to fit some aux lights and when i went to put them back in i have had two fail on me. One snapped and the other bent out of alignment. Would really appreciate any recommendations on an alternative to these flimsy metal clips.:beerjug:

You need to look at how you fit the screws as IMHO if you break them, then you're going to be very close to breaking the plastics they are on.

Used the clip nuts for years on aircraft, all problems I've seen with them have been due to operator error.

No real alternatives unless you use rivnuts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivet_nut but if you're heavy handed they can be even more problematical.

I removed my false tank cover the other day, just to be nosey. I have used these kind of clips + screws for years on other bikes, and I would agree with John, unless there is operator error it's uncommon for them to break.

I always made sure I never over tightened them, a bit of loctite thread lock should keep them from moving without the need to tighten them too much.

So I would probably just suggest to get a new set, perhaps a few spares just incase.

Hope this helps :)

Really really dumb question here - where can you get them (apart from a BMW dealer)?

Thanks

Adrian (clueless as usual :nenau)

Not sure, I did a search on Google / eBay, but I don't know the correct term. If you can find that out it would be easier to locate them.

Just to let you all know these cost 61p each from BMW, and yes i now know what i did wrong but there is no way in hell that i'm telling you lot!!!:augie
