Like a bloody idiot I've let my poor pride and joy to roll off the side stand and now have a small ding in the tank. Some people say you can't really see it but I CAN!. Can anyone suggest a specialist repairer or failing that has anyone had any experience of car bodywork repairers that us suction cups? Is this suitable for a tank? Local info would be nice. I'm enar Winchester in Hampshire.
Many thanks

Martin,

have a look in Yellow Pages for Chips Away - they're a franchised concern who specialise in exactly this kind of thing. I'd guess it'll cost you £35-40.....

Mike:)

Thanks Mike, that's just the sort of tip I need. I've looked in the Yellow Pages but with so many to chose from..... Once again Ta!

I have a dent in the tank as well and been trying for a year to find someone to repair. Tried all those names including a chap that was promoting his "dent" solution in a supermarket car park with no success.
It seems that the tank is in some places double skinned so the method used, either "sucking" or using tin rods, don't work. Many told me to get lost because they don't want ot deal with motorcycles.

But, please Herne, keep us posted if you succeed.

Incidentally, my dent is in the front left bottom corner, just where the tank curves down.

You wont get a tank dent out if its in a sharply curved section. The dent devil people specialise in removing the dents in car panels cos they're flatter with a larger surface area.

if you've got a largish shallowish dent in the flat area just in front of the knees thats the only place youll get the dent out

Phil

Don't forget that a lot of places won't touch a tank anyway... safer to get the thing replaced they reckon. But, as it's only a tiny dent, can you live with it?

just in case!

I've got a brand new unused standard 1150 tank in Graphitan
Could be yours for £250 if that helps (painting wouldn't be that dear)

Alternative Method

Here's something Iv'e seen work.
Empty the tank and leave it vented.
Secure a chnk of dry ice to the dented spot.
Leave in place for 15-20 minutes.
Remove ice, move bike to sunny area and watch ding disappear.

Arizona Vs Winchester … in December. There may be a minor flaw with that plan :D

Now let me think what that might be ...

Don't worry, it's just jelousy on my part

Well take your tank with you perhaps?

A business trip - to repair the fuel tank. Better not tell 'em your flying with it though. Oh and it may have more dings in it when you return.

:P Glad to help.

Tank Ding

Do they sell infrared heat lamps in the U.K.?
