I'm currently tidying up the wiring on my G/S and noticed that the frame has been in contact with the underside of the tank as shown in the photo below :eek

The previous owner put some pipe insulation on the frame, but it was obviously not enough. So can anybody tell me if parts no. 3 and 4 below are all that is necessary to give proper support to a 32 L PD tank so it will not rub against the frame?

Thanks in advance :thumb2

Hi Rob,

Yes please, a photo would be very helpful. If you have the part no. it would also be a big help when ordering :clap

Edit: I just saw the part no. on your link - Thanks !!

Dan,

I've had a look through my receipts but cannot find the part number for the rubber spacer. It sits across the top of the frame tube and the two side tubes it's shaped to fit in the back part of the tank and keeps the tension on the rear tank mounting loop -

Hi Rob,

Looks like it's exactly what I need :thumb

I will take my chances and order the part no. thats shown in your link to RealOEM.com.

Thanks a lot!

Even if you fit that rubber support, the base of the tank will rub against the frame when the tank is full.
Best solution I've found is cutting a piece of fuel line or similar plastic pipe (5-6cm long), pass a ziptie through it and fix it on the frame main pipe just like it is used to fix cables etc. Use several of them on the required places. The fuel line will dampen the tank without scratching both sides.

I can send you photos if you want

I have ordered the rubber part as shown in Rob's picture and I also ordered the front rubber part that fits over the small tube at the head stock.

I will probably have my PD tank painted very soon and think I'll take cnycl's advice with the fuel hoses around the frame. (Better safe than sorry)

Thanks for your answers :thumb2

PD Tank Support

Dan,

If you have the Paris Dakar tank fitted theres a rubber shaped part that fits under the rear of the tank lifting it clear of the frame. I had to buy one for my PD tank, they are available new from BMW and aren't expensive. If you want a photo just ask.

It's the same, or very similar to part 3 here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0471&mospid=47918&btnr=16_0246&hg=16&fg=05

Hi Rob
Is that for the R80G/S Paris Dakar or the R80GS?
I ask because my R80G/S PD tank is currently sitting on the two rubber pads parts 3 & 4 shown in Dan's previous schematic.
Cheers
Ray

Hi Ray,

Mines the R80G/s Paris Dakar tank. My tank was a new old stock. Pidcocks BMW informed me that this was the part I needed. It fits and works a treat so I've never questioned whether it's the right part or not. My standard 19litre fuel tank has the two rubber mounts the same as Dans illustration.

has anybody seen a micofiche for the PD tank?

thanks for pointing this out rob:thumb
i have ordered one.
a couple of mates with big tanks;) have not known about this.
i think we all use various pipe lagging and foam etc:D
i have searched the microfiah and also part numbers.
found the pd tank pics.

it does not list this support for that tank.
it lists it for the later gs not the 32lt g/s tank.
there are apart from the two rear rubber supports/ two supports at the from of the tank.

Maybe it was a mistake on Pidcocks part or they have supplied them for this purpose in the past. If it was a mistake it was a good one :D

My bike is 1996 r80gs kalhari (basic with big tank) and the bike came from the factory with the plastic (single piece) support Rob mentioned.
