Question:-
Does anybody know if the H & B upper body bars from the motobins / motorworks catalogue fit onto the standard 1150GSA ( BMW) lower crash bars?
I have a (52 reg)GSA with the large tank and fancy a set of the silver upper bars

Have you seen the Touratech tank guards?

I've seen them in photo's and would be tempted myself if I could see them in the flesh (I'm concerned about the fit).

Yes they do fit. I've got the Chrome ones on my 1150gs with a 32litre tank.

Cheers Ken.

Not entirely useless - they are ABS plastic (stick on with double sided tape) and are intended to spread the impact if you roll the bike over onto the tank. They would last about two seconds if they were rubbing on a hard surface but useful to avoid creasing the tank on a slow- or no-speed drop.

Trotsky,

I've been thinking of a pair of these for a while.

As you say, low speed spills onto the tank, £70 versus tank repair at best, seems like a good price to me. :nenau

My concern is that the amount of crap that will inevitably end up behind them, particularly as a breeding ground for panel-flies!

Is there enough clearance to blast a hose behind them or conversely do they fit flush like stick-on knee pads?

They do have a close fit - they are a good match to the curvature of the tank - but there is a bit of double sided tape between them and the tank so they aren't flush.

I get round this by covering them with a Bagster cover (well, they aren't pretty) and cleaning the crap buildup under that every so often. It would be possible, and I did consider this before I realised I might be getting a bit too picky, to run a bead of clear silicone sealant around the edge of the plastic before sticking it on. The gap is small enough on mine for 2-3 mm of silicone to be squashed flat and fill it perfectly.

And it is only double sided tape - if you really wanted to take them off and put them back it could be done...
