Tank/seat gap

Its the Tank

Got my bike last March, noticed the tank was offset.

Stand on pegs and look down at the front of the tank.
Also visible when sighting from the front of the bike.

Queried this on first service and the tech said he had reported the fault to BMW but no response???

They are all like that!!!

If you loosen the tank mounting bolts it seems to straighten up but pulls off centre when bolts are tightened.

Maybe problem is with plastic moulded fuel cell, varience in production??

Might be possible to correct with spacing washers.

If the tank was central I think the seat would look OK.

Decided to forget about it and ride the bike, minor problem.

cheers

Thanks for all that. I didn't get chance to play tonight due to watching the Sheffield United/Arsenal marathon (we got beat by Blackburn..weep weep!). Working late tomorrow but will try again on Thursday.

Interesting what you say Dave as my seat is a real pain to get off. Might be 'seating' incorrectly.

Also looking at the Corbin but looks mega expensive as I find the stock seat comfortable....just don't like that *!*!*!**!! gap.

How about posting a photo as mine is tight.

Mine is on lower setting and has a gap which is wider on the right than the left.

Pictures to follow...... should this be in "Show me yours"?

Had another play last night without much success.

It has always been difficult to fit and found out why.

Although my bike was registered in January I think it is an earlier bike because it came with a full tool kit and puncture repair. Take these out and it clicks into positions easily....although the gaps still there.

I think I'll give up and live with it although the tank harness is still a possibility (mainly for protection and a tank bag)

Best wishes

Snapped!

In trying to close the gap, I just managed to snap the little plastic articulated piece on the right hand side recepticle, as I put the seat back on!

Doesn't always take me this long to break something new!!

Bugger!!

Double bugger etc!!

:(

Go for a warranty claim. If I damaged my bike trying to fix a manufactures fault, I would make a claim. May be rejected, but a lot will depend on the sympathy of your supplying dealer.
