I have a 2005 RT, 7000 miles, just been in for service and i can now hear the tappets on both cylinders when the bike is ticking over.
This is my first RT so don't know if "they all do that". It certainly didn't do it before the main dealer serviced it, adjusted the tappets and balanced the throttles.
Running smoother now but feels like there is a slight hesitation when opening the throttle.
It is going back to the dealer, no problem as far as that is concerned, but any ideas on what is normal would be appreciated.
Thanks.

you are a mechanics nightmare .

" ever since i had it serviced " it does x,y,z

have you thought that maybe they ere to tight before

Tappets too tight previously maybe, thats what i was trying to find out, my first RT, or boxer of any type, as i said. You don't normally hear tappets tapping but not sure if it is a characteristic of this engine.
In mitigation your honour it's done nearly 4000 miles in the last year. The original owner didn't do many miles, parked up for three years, health reasons i think.

Noise could be because technician removed spiders webs from valve gear ?

The Rule-of-Thumb with Boxer engines, my 2CV included, is that if you can hear your tappets, things are fine. Start worrying if you can't as gaps are closing up or valve seats are receding.

Spot on. It's true of pretty much any big air cooled single/twin. Only worry when you can't hear your tappets :thumb2

Thanks for the replies fellas. Got the bike out this morning and it doesn't sound anything like the other day... sounds like it should do after a service. Phoned garage, ate humble pie, cancelled the return visit.
