Thinking of changing bikes and fancy a new R1200GS in silver. Locla dealer thas one with all the usual factory fit toys but wants £11,000  (Dymanic & Premium packs). BMW also still have the FOC vario pannier offer going which will save a few quid although I would prefer ally boxes.

Are there any deals to be done and what target price should I be aiming for?

There is also the option of a 2008 R1200GS with the above spec'n and luggage for just over £9k. It only has 2,500 miles which is hardly run in. My head says the used bike is the better buy but the heart says go for the new bike but £2k buys an awful lot of bling or would fund a Euro trip to run the bike-in.

Why not buy a 2008 1200 GSA with Micatech panniers, Autocom super avi pro, Premium pack and everything on Dynamic pack EXCEPT the traction control for a lot less?

I'd get haggling. Adding in the generous trade in price I got for my 1200gs plus the discount thats about what I paid for an adventure with free boxes. My tactic was to go in asking for a basic ish spec and then got them to sell me one with all the bells and whistles for the same cash.
Good luck

At 2500 miles a boxer engine is not run in at all !
At 2500 miles that's a new bike.

2000 pounds buys you a nice longer warranty and all the bling you might need/want.

This being said : perhaps you like the 'I'm the first owner' or 'new' feel of a bike ... I know I do.

Personally I'd go for the nearly new bike every time. Pay for an extra years warranty and bobs your uncle.

A deal has been done and collect it 03rd July. Went for the nearly new bike with panniers. An 09 plate, 2 mths old with 1,500miles. Someone else has paid the VAT.
