Well,that`s me rumbled.
I`m sure Helen will appreciate that comment about her sartorial elegence.
So what`s gone on here then ??
I`ve given (and received) some stick several times here when I`ve ranted about people fitting TKC`s then complaining about road vibes or having scary moments while cornering (tipping in or hints of lowsiding).
And yet,many people have had nothing but praise for these tyres.
Weird.
Also the rant about fitting tyres for looks alone and then having a bike that may 'look cool' but is dangerously compromised on the road.
I`m just like most other people wanting my bike to 'look the biz' but I`d never do anything to make my bike handle worse or have worse roadholding as a consequence of any change...and road is where I mostly ride.
And yet,many mostly road riders have nothing but praise for these tyres.
Again...weird.
Well,I needed new tyres for the NTX and due to the older,narrower,tyre sizes fitted to it,there wasn`t a great deal of choice suitable.
Avon Distanzias were recommended but I`d never liked Avons.
Pirelli and Metzeler were dearer than what I wanted to pay.
The 'looks' thing came into play a bit because I didn`t want a mostly road looking tyre...but I did want something that worked well and safely.
Although not an off roader as such,I do ride many broken surfaced tracks and tiny unmarked lanes,and I`m planning a few more Boreens in Ireland in a month or two,so some sort of 'all terrain' capability was desired.
I`m not able to shop online at the moment so didn`t chase up the Heidenau tyres I`ve used and liked....and I didn`t want to wait for the Stafford Show to get some Maxxis or Mitas.
Browsing a very good trail trye review on the HUBB led me to discover nothing but praise for TKC`s on smaller bikes and up to KLR650 size with no mention of the few scary issues discussed about them on big GS`s.
I ruminated and cogitated for an evening in work,then thought 'Feck it' and ordered a pair of TKC`s from SRT in Birkenhead.
I could always remove them if I didn`t like them.
This may also have been biased by them actually costing less supplied and fitted than the Heidenaus would have been supply only.
I was still a bit concerned if I`d done the right thing though.
Despite the great reviews.
Well.....WHAT A REVELATION.
No vibration at all.
No undue noise.
No tipping in.
No hint of squirming.
No fear of lowsiding.
No bother at all......not even 'straight from the box'.
I`m running them on 34psi front and 38psi rear.
The pattern is similar but the block spacing definately looks different to those on the bigger,wider,tyres like on the Oilheads....and I`m wondering if that is what makes the difference??
On Tim`s bike next to mine,there almost seemed to be more gap than tread block.
On my tyres the spacing seems more uniform and the shape of the tyre doesn`t look distorted or 'over wide'.
Food for thought?
I`m happy,anyway.
