It's that time of year again.

Bought a new tax disc, and found that the old holder has seized itself solid (again) and it will either take hours of patience to open it or I can bin it and buy another one...

I even mounted it up by the seat to try to stop the worst of the road dirt getting to it.

I'm sure these shouldn't be disposable!

Has anyone found a good waterproof/tamper proof tax disc holder that last more than one year?

I use a fancy looking waterproof one (carbon fibre back, alloy front in choice of colours) with a rubber gasket and six allen bolts. It's not leaked over the last few years and seizing isn't an issue.

I got mine from P H Allins, MPS, Hallens or whatever they're called this week on Histon Rd. About £15 if I recall.

I've got one similar to the above, hardest part was finding somewhere to mount it.

The one I have, has a carbon fibre back/front with six allen keys bolts/nylocs, with gasket. Never leaked on the 3 bikes I've had it on. Cost about £20

I've got one of those hexagonal jobbies with gaskets and allen key bolts too.....it's new after me old one got nivcked but just a thought here......how about treating all your screws/bolts etc with a dob of copperease before tightening......should cure the siezing up thing :)

Use a plastic one here!!

I use a plastic one cable tied here as on attached photo, never siezes, I wonder WHY!!!

Gary.

I Use..

I use one of these. It came with the bike. It has 6 bolts that hold it togather and when i recently put a new tax disk in, i found it had 3 years worth of previous ones in there, slightly crinkled, but still good.

Its mounted as you can see on the left side, pillion foot peg, using the bolt that hangs the exaust. If any one tries to nick it, then i hope the pipes hot when they try.. :D

I have seen them in a few shops for around £10-15 i think.

Like Gary I went for the deluxe plastic model, £1.50. A smear of er...er...vaseline around the rim:( keeps the damp out. *digging a hole here*

Copperease... good idea, thanks Fanum!

Adamski: is yours the yellow GS with top box? And this week it's called Hallens!

Err, no, it's the yellow S sometimes fitted with maxia top box.
