are there any (proper) waterproof tax disc holders out ther?????
tried lots of them over the yrs and i havnt found one that dsnt leak yet?....any reccomendations would be apprieciated:confused:

Don't think there are any truely waterproof ones. However, what I do is colour photocopy the original disc, write on the back 'original with owner', wrap it in sellotape and then stick in holder. This helps to keep it waterproof, protects your original and if somebody should happen to steal the copy then they will have problems changing the reg number on it it they wanted to.
Illegal to display copied disc but I am sure the Plod will understand.

I've never found any waterproof ones either so I laminate my tax disc before putting it in the holder:aidan

Have been using one of these for more than two years now, now moisture gets in and mounting is easy...........

Just search for an Oberon Cylindrical Tax Disc Holder
Waterproof cylindrical tax disc holders, guaranteed against moisture ingress and corrosion!!
Machined from billet alloy and fitted with O-ring seals, supplied with mounting bracket.
The tax disc is fully rotatable whilst fixed to the bike, to allow viewing of all license details.

£28  for a fookin Tax disc holder ... you're having a giraffe mate.
Some scrotes just going to love that

FWIW ... i laminate mine, then i cut a bigger circle out of clear self adhesive vinyl and use that to adhere to the suspension wishbone thingy :D

Clear self adhesive vinyl available at 'Wilkinsons', failing that a stationers.... or if you are still struggling a large SAE will see you with the bits on your doorstep :D

I always scan my tax disc and save a copy on my computer. Print one off, stick it in the holder and if it gets soggy then print another off and replace it. :thumb2
The proper disc stays in my wallet so if I do get pulled I can produce it on demand.

Simples really, get an averagly good and secure holder with several screws around the seal and when you have put the disc in then smear a silicone sealant around the edge. Done this for years and had disc underwater and still no ingress of water. When it comes to renew its easy to remove the sealant and start again. I know the roll style holders mentioned are excellent but sealant allows an easy fix.:aidan

CHEERS FOLKS

sum good remedys there..particulary the lamination and silicone sealant...will go the cheaper options as no one told me when i bought a GS that i would spend a fortune on goodies (thought only Harley riders did that):wife

Mine's in my wallet.
No copy or anything like it, on the bike.

NEVER had any problems with the police.

You might from a traffic warden. It is an offence to not display a tax disc. I remember a lad getting a fine for failing to display despite having a disc on his bike - it was obscured by camping stuff as he was en route to a rally.

stick it through the laminator. then cut almost around the circumference of the tax disc. then back through the laminator a couple of times. 100% waterproof also means if some tyke steals it they can not alter the details.

Excellent.

I just wrap mine carefully in cling film and use the cheapest motorcycle holder that Halford's can sell...

Someone remind me why it is in this computerised-everything-age, that we still have tax discs?:nenau
And MOT certificates?
It is not as if the ANPR vehicles cannot check these things through some central registry. Otherwise ANPR is a complete waste of money!:augie
I don't have a waterproof tax disc holder. Carried mine around in my wallet for months, obvioulsy 'cos the Scottish Borders is a hotbed of tax disc thefts, :blast and I only put it on because I was going for its MOT check and test.

Very similar to what Ive been doing for years. I just put a thin wipe of silicone on the thin rubber seal as I assemble it. Easy to clean it off each time you have to change the disc. But you can't tighten the little bolts fully until its set or the gasket squeezes out, just leave them tilll next morning to pinch them up.
