Oh bugger...

And I was so pleased that I seemed to have escaped the clutches of import tax...

...but at least ParcelForce didn't add anything to it...

...or will my minor victory on this all turn to naught as well...

Still - the suit is a great bit of gear though - and well worth it with the exchange rate being where it is

Do not worry too much. If Parcel Force or whoever the carrier was have not asked for money it is very unlikely they will especially if you have passed the 10th day following the month of import.
i.e. 10 June would be the last day to claim duty on items imported in May.

With regards to Duty rates all privately imported garments will attract a duty rate of 12 percent on the delivered price

To check the rates for other items follow this link
http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds/cgi-bin/tarquer?Lang=EN

With regards to 'gift' description this will only work if the value is declared as GBP18.00 or less, as above that figure, goods are liable to duty & VAT.

Just had letter from Parcel Farce. The suits at their depot in town and I have to pay them £17.53 Import duty, £85.11 VAT and somthing called Parcel Farce clearance Fee before they'll deliver it. Total extras.....£116.14

I'll have my suit tomorrow if I pay today they say. Just in time for the Irish trip next week :aidan

One thing interests me...
Are new goods sent from the US subject to their own local taxes as well?.
I wouldn't have thought so,but i'm not a grasping tax-man.

If I were to buy a product shipped from another state, it will have no sales tax attached, so I can't imagine there being any sales tax on items shipped to other countries.

Very similar to what I had to pay for mine. Enjoy! :thumb
