95 1100GS - ( single cable crossover)Seems when ever I sync my throttle bodies there is always a spot that does seem quite right.(vibration) When I'm riding and at 3600 rpm to about 4000 rpm it will feel off a little bit and not quite so smooth go over 4000 rpm and smooths right out. I can adjust it a little bit and I will be smooth through 3000 t0 4000 but then get a little vibration. Basically it seems if riding at 65mph (not sure how many kilometers that is) the difference would be riding in 4th gear or 5th gear to stay without vibration at the same speed. Does anyone else have this issue. Ive checked for vacuum leaks and all seems good. Just cant seem to get it perfect all the way through the rpm range. The bike has a O2 sensor and I have checked my tps, replaced my O2,new hall switch, cleaned the inside bores of throttle bodies. This is my first 1100 gs is this just the characteristics of the bike and I'm being to picky. Any opinions appreciated. thanks, John:confused:

They are different to the Jap and Italian competition - add a few years on the road - probably a few owners too and there could be any number things which would lead to the vibration you describe. Try and get a go on a similar bike (I know - easier said than done) that will at least give you a baseline.

By the way - welcome and good luck.

does it feel like a sort of pulsing or surging ?? if so , check the tps voltage :thumb2:thumb2
or valve clearances and rocker end float

Not so much like surging more like buzzing, although I did have that issue as well but have seemed to get rid of it. Valves have been adjusted (to the loose side) the bike seems to like that better , tps, is good. I think I may be just over picky I have ridden allot of Jap. bikes and harleys over the years but this is my first opposed twin.

I also have a single cable setup on my 94 r1100gs and have the same problem. I'm not sure if it's possible to get them to be in perfect synch right accross the rev range..

ISTR others gaining some benefit from having a new throttle cable, how old is yours?

I had the same and will be replacing the single throttle cable this morning on the RT...............£34 for a new one;)

I will let you know later, if it is better:D

That is a far better price than the later "improved" split cable.

Already changed the throttle cable, I forgot to mention that earlier.

Make sure that the idle air screws are 'equal'. If the throttle butterfly positions have been tampered with, you can correct at idle with the screws but the balance goes out as you open up.

If the left hand air screw is in roughly the right position - 2.25 turns out IIRC - and the tps voltage correct. Set the right hand air screw to the same number of turns and balance the vacuum gauges with the throttle stop screw.

Then, re-balance the cables.

Fixed mine :thumb2

ps The well published zero = zero does work if you follow it correctly. Some on here have slagged it off without reading it through.

My 88 R1100GS feels a bit gruff at around 4000 rpm, but there's no vibration in the mirrors. Quite usefull as it coincides with 70 mph in 5th gear :) . Get to 5000 rpm and then there is vibration in the mirrors. Probably just be considered as "character" on another bike.
