TDC Hole Grommet.... why why why

Did I not read Steptoes guide to doing valve clearances and the easy way to find TDC...... before I read the manual, did the job and then finished up by shoving that little rubber grommet timer cover thing all the way through the hole into my bike.
Any ideas on what to do next? Turning bike upside down and shaking until it drops out is not an option.

2003 1150 adv (it it makes any difference....)

Advice would be very much appreciated.

P.S. not many would own up to doing this but I cannot beleive this a first....probably
 
Dont worry about it.
You are not the first and you wont be the last.
You may be able to get it out if you remove the starter motor and furkle around;but the grommet may soon get shredded by the clutch with no ill effects to the bike.

Same set up on Guzzis (don't ask how I know :o) )- a little bit of ground up rubber powder acts as a lubricante for the ring gear, it's good for the bike :D

in a dust up between a little rubber bung and a big spinning lump of steel with teeth, guess which wins? :P

You will probably find a definitive "how to f@ck it up in the first place" as well as the proper way to do it.:D
 
They're fiddly little buggers but, like everyone's said, don't fret over it. Get another & fit it & forget about t'other one.

I found that a looped cable tie stuck through the bung helps give you something to hold onto...

What a brilliant gadge, it's a right bugger to get back in .and out again, this little mod will assist both jobs. Brilliant!!:thumb2
