Team Flatlanders pogo trip to the Alps.

Day three, a study of the map and a collective yes, sent us on our way up the Valley Del Frejus. Again right on the outskirts of town. Big mistake. Rough broken tarmac and very boring. There was a large concrete tower, a bit like a ski lift that Treeman forded a river to explore but he turned back as it was fenced off and covered with CCTV cameras. A later study of the map revealed that it is a venting tower for the Frejus tunnel. Anyways on the way back down there was a track off to the right. Scottie and Chalkie blasted off and Po and I followed. Steep was not the word for it. I turned back at Chaffaux as my trail wing tyres couln't cope with the loose rocks. A while later all returned and we set of back down. We then climbed up again to Les Granges and followed the trail up to the new wooden bridge. Again the steepness of the climb afterwards beat us all.

Plan B for the day was to ride up to the Three Crosses (Tre Croci) Set there to remember battles fought in the past on these same mountains. Shame that the TV reflector hides them from view in the town. We missed the crosses on the way up as, yet again, the very serious climb starts from the edge of town. Deep joy, not to many loose rocks but lots of small stones and dust and a relentless very bumpy and very steep climb with repeated tight turns up to about 2500 meters.

Knackered at the top and the first fort.

Chalkie had a blast around and discovered an old tunnel network. We could only use our camera flash to get pictures.

We had planned on getting to the top but a landslide had wrecked that chance. Could have continued on foot but................
