Techlusion - they're grrrreeeeeat!

Dynospeed in Chigwell fitted the box and dyno'd me bike on Tuesday.

What a difference!! I noticed that within about 400 yards. It now runs creamy smooth at all revs and speeds. None of the surging and gasping that I have become familair with - all gone! Barely any difference to peak HP - just over 85 on the dyno, but it has improved the pick-up and crusing speeds. All of the issues regarding the bike running lean have been addressed and the system can be adjusted by mesels when I want to adjust the fuelling in cold weather too.

Paul at Dynospeed was absolutely ace - can't recommend him more highly.

As for the Techlusion box - money well spent.

Dynospeed is based in Chigwell Row, Essex, M11/M25 junction. Paul Watson is the guy that did all the work. Now he is really a Jap bike man [a look at his 500+HP 'Busa is a must] but he was man enuf to take on the challenge of a GS. He has a dyno for testing bikes and spent about 3 hours total on mine, ironing out the lean and rich areas of the air/fuel mixture.

I paid about £220 for the techlusion box.

Now...he did say he found the 'experience' a challenge, but I don't think he would turn down any biz from other GS owners, now that he has broken himself in [ahem] with the bike. He can be reached on 020 8500 5770. A good egg and knows his stuff. His 'Busa regularly does drag racing and is a success at it. As I said, I can't say he'd relish an influx of GS owners, but he didn't say 'no' either. At the end of the day, its all money.

I have found - obviously - that my fuel consumption has gone up. But as my fuel guage is f***ed [see posting in Technical] I have no idea by how much. At the moment it is just gorgeous to ride and twist the throttle back, but I am keen to find out what my mpg is, so i will wait until this tank is empty to compare.


As I understand it, the system can be quite sensitive, and they do recommend very small incremental changes to get it to your liking. The obvious beauty is that anyone can do the adjustments with no need for wiring th ebike to laptops, programs etc. Paul recommended to adjust the 'cruise' pot only. He didn't want me touching either the green or yellow pots - period. Adjusting 'cruise' will allow me to run it lean or rich, depending on riding style.

Paul at Dynospeed clearly has deep regard for Power Commanders, but let's not go down that road again! Primitive the Techlusion may be [in his eyes] but for BMW boxers, its all we have and it works fine.

What I will do, which I haven't yet, is to record these new 'base' settings for my bike so that I if and when I do fettle [as all good blokes do] i won't forget where it was to start with.

The system is really easy 'plug and play' installation and I can also highly recommend it.
The pot settings must be adjusted with a Vm because it is so sensitive to the slightest adjustment.

I've been quoted 210 quids for the thingy plus 150 for install and dyno.

Don't have a voltmeter, so I am just gonna use a good ole' fashioned screwdriver and me nonce. [Maybe I should buy one...]

With everybody giving us their ideal settings, that would make for quite a database for all GS owners to work from.

Go to www.techlusion.com for more information and schematics. I had the R259 fitted. And yes, it is pretty straightforward to install, its just the pot settings that need care to get right, which is why having it dyno'd will help, as you can see how the air/fuel mix is running against the settings. Otherwise it will be a slightly laborious trial-and-error task of adjustment, ride, adjustment, ride. Although it would certainly depend on the model and mods you have made, it would seem to make sense to go the dyno route.

Indeed, highly recommended bit of kit. Already had K&N, Y piece and remus installed but worried about it running lean. Took it to TTS in Northampton to get R259 fitted and dyno'd, highly recommended - go here:

They did a "before" and "after" run and confirmed that the bike was indeed running lean so happy with decision to do it. No noticeable change in power curve but OH YES does it feel smoother and easier to ride. Total cost £293.75 (R259 £187.50 + £62.50 time and dyno, + VAT)
This one mod has killed off any thoughts of an R1200 upgrade in one go! Settings set from TTS's own experience shown here, reluctant to fiddle because a) feels fine as it is and b) screws and plastic look delicate so I'll probably break them! Does use more fuel - previously 200-ish down to 180-ish per tank full.

You really need a multimeter to see what the settings are. The differences are so fine that you would only get a very rough idea with the naked eye. You can get an adequate multimeter off ebay for £5.

I agree totally about the Techlusion unit, my RT surged all the time in the cruising (closed loop range) so I got a Techlusion 1030 unit, fitted a Remus, ditched the Lambda Probe and set the unit to Techlusions initial setting, since then my bikes pulls so strong out of corneres and cruising is now what BMW was aiming for and sadly missed.

Right,

my Techlusion pot settings are:

'02 GS Adv

green: 2.4

yellow: 3.4

red: 9.2

cruise: 4.2

This is based on the 'clock face' setting as shown on the dials.

I will get a multimeter to use for adjustment, now that you have recommend it.

just done my first full tank with the Techlusion. 41.6mpg, down from the usual 43and-a-bit, so it seems not to be guzzling too much extra fuel right now. Which is a result. As I had expected it to be much worse.
