hi
fairly new on here ...lookin for some advice on the following:just fitted a technoflex rear shock on my 1150gs , both wheels are now on the ground as opposed to the rear being approx 20mm off the grond before. Its definetly for the gs and not the ADV.
It also seems realy hard , would adjusting the rebound soften it of a bit or do I need to remove it and adjust the spring preload?
Its the standard emulsion shock.
ta.

How much sag do you have in the suspension? To setup the sag you need to back of the damping completely, take the weight off the back end of the bike so the wheel is virtually coming off the ground, get somebody to take a vertical measurement from the ground to a point on the bike. Release the weight and take the measurement between the ground and the same point again. This is the suspension sag it should be somewhere between 10 and 25 mm. If you haven't got any sag try setting the preload to achieve some if there still isn't any then the spring is wrong for the bike. Once the sags correct then you can mess about with the damping to suit your riding.

Ohlins are longer than the standard shocks as well. It may be something you have to live with.

rear shock

thanks rob , done as suggested sag is approx 25mm , have reduced the damping and it feels a lot better , still seems 2taller"than it used to be , however this may be down to the old shock being knacked.
thanks again for your help.
