Telelever Wishbone boken!

Just cleaning the RS this morning and thought when moving it that it felt a little odd. Checked the front end and found that the lower shock mounting bracket had come away from the wishbone

Anyone had any experience of this and know what the likely cause may have been? Looking at the wishbone it seems the bracket may originally have been attached by a spot weld - If this is the case can the bracket be re-welded or is it going to be a new part?

PS - Bike is a '95 R1100RS with 29k on the clock. Recently found the lower shock mounting bolt was only finger tight, re-torqued it and it was loose again within a month. Re-tightened again and now the mount's broken within the space of a fortnight

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

I`ve seen some bikes with slight orangeish traces around the point where that bracket is attached to the Telelever arm....indicating rust.

I haven`t checked to see if it is actually spot welded, but it would be a weak a point if there`s any rust in a spot welded joint.

At least the Telelever arm is a doddle to remove for a seam welded repair or replacement.

That's exactly what mine was showing. Doesn't look too painful a job to get it off and replaced, just wondering if the welded option would be OK rather than forking out for a new wishbone?

:D :D Pun not intended,I presume ?? :D :D

I can`t see how a properly seam welded job can be a problem,mate...as long as it`s aligned correctly.

Why waste money on another spot welded one ???

Most certainly was! :D

Cheers for the advice - Got the bike stripped down and had another look at the damage. The lower shock mount has come away from the main part of the wishbone and there is now a circular hole in the bottom of the mounting bracket almost as if there has been some sort of stud/pin that's broken away and remained in the wishbone.

I'll make some enquiries about prices tomorrow and decide what to do...

Shouldn`t cost much for a bit of decent TIG work :thumb
