A request for hotels in France within a striking distance of Calais, often comes up.

Let’s set the ball rolling at 30 miles (50 km). Why? That distance translates to roughly 30 minutes on a motorway and / or say, an hour on the lesser D roads, which might well fit in with bods’ plans, particularly if they have arrived late or only want a short hop back to the coast for their return to the UK.

The circle is drawn with a radius of 30 miles, centred on Calais. It comfortably embraces the popular town of St Omer.

Ibis budget Saint-Omer. Nice enough, clean hotel with parking in a lovely little town.
Unfortunately we probably won’t use it again as going the channel direction is hopefully in the past now. Although it might be useful if doing the France North coast as place both coming from and going back to the Rotterdam ferry port.
Hmm, now that could be a fun trip.

If camping rather than staying in hotels there is a decent site in Éperlecques, has a bar and pizza restaurant/take-away and is next to the V1 rocket site which is worth a visit.

I always stayed in Bergues quite a lot as I worked in Dunkirk occasionally. I stayed usually at B and B's. It's a couple of miles outside your range though.
Bienvenue Che Nous is quirky and has an excellent restaurant. Hotel Au Tonnier is good if you stay in the new wing. Hotel Cheval Noir is good but a little farther from Bergues but allows for late arrivals, Au Petite Manor is also good.
Bergues is a lovely small town with a city wall.
A film, Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis was filmed there and a tradition French restaurant Le Breugel featured and is worth eating there.
It's worth considering if you have sometime on your hands.

I stayed at 'Chambres Du Marais' in the village of Tilques last month. It's 5km north of St Omer, just few minutes from the main roads and it's tucked away at the end of a cul-de-sac. It was a midnight arrival so I didn't need any food etc but it was an excellent place to stay. The breakfast was fantastic.

I have added a link. Bods like links, almost as much as they like pictures.

Good idea. I have the following. All tried and tested and acceptable. All Logis and all secure w.r.t. bike parking and a little comment for each:
La Cour de Remi - great rooms in beautiful setting. Food OK.
Les Hauts de Montreuil - Smallish roms but food is fantastic, but so is the price! Excellent parking in locked garage
Hostellierie St Louis - rooms OK a bit dated and food is fine. Quiet setting
Chateau des Tourelles - rooms OK a bit dated and food is fine. Quiet setting

Stayed at Hotel Metropole a few times in Boulogne . Got a separate large garage which is free if you know the code 😀
Fabulous local dining nearby at Le Chuck Wagon avec ketchup

St Jean hotel, Wimereux

Why? Whilst it’s a bed-and-breakfast hotel, there are plenty of restaurants to chose from in the town. Smallish (secure) car park. Nice / helpful owner.

Logis hotel Speranza, Wimereux

Why? Quirky looking. Good food.

The hotel doesn’t have dedicated parking, so bring a chain / lock…. But you’ll have and use those anyway, won’t you?

Bergues, a bit south of Dunkirk.

Logis hotel, au Tonnelier

Why? A typical Logis. No integral parking. I lock my bike up outside the front door, for the nights of my stays. A pleasant small town, with a choice of bars and restaurants. Pretty decent restaurant. Run by nice people.

Thank you.

Another vote for this hotel.

There used to be a petrol station just down the road. But, I think it’s now closed. Maybe it’ll reopen as an automatic 24/7 service?

Hotel Escale, Cap Blanc Nez

Why? A basic hotel, good enough for an overnight stay. Decent enough car park.
