Tell us you favourite hotels / camping spots, within 30 miles of Calais

Bergues, a bit south of Dunkirk.

Logis hotel, au Tonnelier

Why? A typical Logis. No integral parking. I lock my bike up outside the front door, for the nights of my stays. A pleasant small town, with a choice of bars and restaurants. Pretty decent restaurant. Run by nice people.
Last time I was there (by car) for 10 euros you could park your car in a locked area with direct access to the new wing. I paid cause company was covering it.
I stayed at in an attic room B and B there one time and was unloading bike when a guy from opposite came up to me and asked if I wanted to use his garage while I was there. Didn't expect that kindness from a stranger.

Used this one a couple of times in the car, it’s dead handy for the tunnel

There’s usually a load of French plod there as they stay there when they’re on migrant bashing missions, there’s a load of insignia in a case at reception

I used to use this a lot, before it was rebuilt and afterwards.

Then I heard it had fallen away, as hotels sometimes can and do. Good to hear that it has pulled its socks up.

Lots of parking.
Was there a couple of years ago now (2022) and the whole place looked tired and the food wasn't good, at least by the standards that I have seen for such places. At that time it had a ''blue'' Logis rating for food and lodging and I see this has been downgraded to orange on both counts. Good to hear they have perked it up. For similar money my preferences listed in post #9. Just personal of course.

At some point I’ll see if I can map the assorted recommendations out, possibly in a shareable folder via Google maps.

Here it is:

Tapping on the link, should take you to a web page, that looks like this. Each of the markers is a hotel recommended in this thread.

IMG_1164.jpeg

Then on each of the markers on the map displayed on the web page, to see the hotel’s details.

This should make it easier for punters to choose a hotel, near enough in a place which suits them. For instance, if I need a hotel closer to Le Touquet, I’d not start by tapping on a marker close to Dunkirk.

NOTE:

It would be really helpful if, when putting up recommendations, bods could add a link to the hotel or campsite’s website. Sometimes hotels share a common name or there are several campsites around the same town, leaving it unclear as to which the poster is referring to. Thank you.

A different thing this time. A campsite / motorhome / camper van site:

Location: Guines.

I stayed here recently on my way to and back from Spa, Belgium.

Nicely laid out. Good toilet / shower block. Good and helpful staff. Small restaurant / bar / shop on site or use the associated Logis hotel next door.

PS Talking to the site manager, he confirmed that the site does become very booked up in high season. It’s therefore maybe a good idea to book ahead.

Not sure of the time / distance - but have used this site for many years ,, decent facilities , a couple of min from road ( but you don’t see/ hear it ) - wee Bar Restaurant on site .
Just north of Boulogne .

Thank you. It’s good to have some campsites included,

The distance is fine, well within the 30 mile radius of Calais.

Here is the site’s website: https://campinglesescales.fr/en/home-2/

We used to use Gravelines Aire after a late evening crossing to France and for our last night in France before an early crossing back. There’s a great restaurant called l’eclusier just next to it.

+1 for La Bien Assise at Guines.
Used it many times for motorhome stop over and booked in the Logis hotel.
The attached restaurant does excellent food and decent prices for menu and wine.
Site takes moho, caravans and tents with good facilities. Static tents and cabins are available to rent.
The hotel is more basic, clean & v tidy rooms but worth it for the restaurant.
Guines itself can offer a few bars and eating places but more useful for large supermarkets to stop up and refuel.

We'll be going again on next Chunnel trip.

👍🏻1 for this place. One of our favourites. Handy for the ferry and well run. Restaurant is excellent but can be hard to get a seat in. Popular with locals and campers.

This is another camping option:

Not far from the ferry and handy if you’re heading down the A26 or coming back that way. Just outside Eperleque if you fancy a look at the V2 site.

Restaurant seems to only open in the summer these days.

Camping Chateau de Gandspette in Le Gandspette. About 30 minutes from the Eurotunnel. Good flat ground, pitches for Campervan, motor homes & tents. Quite remote so safe, but remember the butter in the fridge, clean showers etc. Bar is ok but the restaurant is poor, edible food but not particularly good & expensive for what you get. Next door is a WW2 V2 rocket site which makes an interesting morning’s stroll.
