Hi All

This morning was the first sub zero commute to work of the year since I bought the F800GS in March, still the temperature for the past two weeks has been pretty low, so low in fact that the on board computer doesn't display my MPG like normal, but changes to a flashing temperature indication.

Is there a specific reason for this?

I assume its a warning to not rag the bike as it will take longer to warm up. I do a 10 mile commute to work and the bike is usually at the halfway point on the temperature gauge when I'm on the other side of town, but today, after a 5 minute motorway journey at 90mph and a 15 minute ride in total it was still 1 notch south of the midway point on the temperature gauge.

Cheers! :type

The sensor measures the temperature away from the wind effect. My bike has twice stopped me from starting it without re-engaging the ignition (on/off/on), i assume this is to bring my attention to the cold conditions & take appropriate action whilst riding.

My fuel guage has gone to pot (in this weather), only really tells me when i'm near 30miles left to go.

manual says it automatically switches from other modes if temp drops below 3Deg C, to warn of a risk of black ice:thumb2:beer:

Ah cheers Richie!

Seems like a good thing to do... should have looked in the manual really :D

Yep, just a warning that ice could be about. You can hit the "info" button and the computer will go back to whatever is was displaying before.

The reason it comes on at 3c is that the sensor is a couple of feet above road level and the temperature at road level is normally a bit lower. Plus, of course, there's even more danger when you come to dips in the road or where the road crosses streams.

In Poland I saw automated displays by the side of the road that showed both mean air temperature and the temperature of the road, it was amazing how much lower the road temperature was.
