Bloke down the street has a PD in his garden with plants growing through the spokes so its been parked up a while. Also has a coating of green moss ( I kid you not) on the paint work. Smelling a potential bargain knocked on his door. It as a current TUV but although I'm not Sherlock Holmes The battery must be Knacked and I'd be worried about whats going on inside the g/box and engine. He's firm at 1800€, got him down from 3k. Would you go for it? I could break it for spares and get the money back I suppose?:nenau

If you can afford to throw money at it to put it right then I'd say go for it.

Only you know what the paintwork is like etc. Green moss can grow very quickly in the right climate and may just jet wash off, but what's it like for rust.

How corroded is the engine? if it looks fairly good and not all furred up, my guess would be that it would be a fairly simple job to get it back to a reasonable condition. You'll need to strip it and clean up all the electrics etc, but lets have some pics and we'll have a better idea :thumb

Not much in the way of bad corrosion. The collector box is farked but I have a spare in the shed. Still very tempted just to chuck in the garage and do properly when I get the time. It has touratec panniers and seat so theres a few hundred € on flea bay straight away. It has 88000km on the clock so there has to be something big due. Or.....ponce it up wait till summer and punt it out for 4k€:bounce1

i hope parts will be cheaper in germany to the uk?
as it would be easy to get 1800 in parts or more than that

i would not buy one to do up as the cost of parts would out weight the fun of fixing / doing it up.
i am just hoping my bike will not brake done much.

Sounds very similar to the one I bought. Outside in the Hebrides for at least 18 months. IIRC I paid about £800 including the new silencer and collector box.

Also IIRC all it needed was the tyres pumped up and a jump start, I didn't even bother with fresh petrol.

It doesn't sound particularly cheap but if the engine oil looks ok on the dipstick, the inside of the fuel tank looks good, (shine a small torch inside to see toward the back) and the metal work isn't battered it should cover the cost in parts if it proves too expensive to fix up.

I'd hoped to get it for 1000€ or below. The garden has grown around it but if you look on http://www.autoscout24.de/moto/home.aspx they are still asking for around 4k€ regardless of milleage. It's that green purple puke colour as well and it has pure road tyres on it so i'd change those straight away. I have to go past it virtualy everyday and it's driving me NUTS!!!! I think it would clean up ok but.........
