Being tempted by a 2010 R1200GS twin cam, fully loaded with all the extras, low(ish) mileage,

Most of my use is commuting (across the Yorkshire Dales), with bits of touring as well (no off road)

So how about some real world advice about these bikes from those that have owned them
... Issues
... handling
... weight
... mpg
... tyre type/life (road biased)

Most probably the best overall 1200.I've owned the MU the TC and the WC

I have a 2010 GS and use it daily to commute. My commute is only 5 miles each way in pretty slow traffic but it handles it perfectly with no complaints.

I travel around France twice a year and have the Vario luggage and I find it is perfect. I previously had smaller sports tourers, a Yamaha Thundercat followed by a VFR800 VTEC and I travel with a few guys on all kinds of bikes. When I made the change to the GS I was worried I would not have as much sporty fun as my previous bikes but I had nothing to worry about. It is just as much fun and if anything I'm quicker on the twisty French D roads than I was on my VFR.

I have had mine for 18 months and have done about 8,000 miles. I love it and don't yearn for anything else.

Go for it. You know you want to........

Oh I get 43mpg in jersey ( mainly in second gear!) and 53mpg thrashing it in France.
It feels much lighter than my VFR did.
And as for tyres, that's down to the rider not the bike. I have PR3's on and it handles brilliantly.

I've had 3 GSA after swopping from sports bikes... I do about 8000 miles a year, for pleasure .... All on the road... I've travelled abroad... Played on " gods roads" of north wales... And recently done a track day.... What more could you want from a bike.....!!!!

Issues.... Well... Not many.... I eat tyres....!!! About 2000 miles a pair........ But I ride hard... Looking for power rangers on sports bikes....

Buy one... Don't test ride... Just do it....!!!

2 twin cams - 2 gs wc - and another twin cam and its the best purchase by far, at the end of my touring trips i do not need to call my dealer to book it in for a fix for all the problems.

My preference to my wc: The screen is better, the seating position i prefer, the gearbox is silky smooth, the fuelling is perfect, there is no corrosion on my 2010 TC either and its a built bike and not a brought bike from china.

There a wise mans purchase, and will hold if not increase in value as long as the wc have constant issues .

Completely agree... I changed last sept for 63 plate tc triple black GSA ... Just been in for a service.. No warranty issues in 12 months....and not tempted to change for a " plastic pig" new model .....!!!!

+1, 2012 triple black GSA, looks & rides better than any bike i have ever riden
just done 3000k around Germany, france,belgium ,luxembourg ,never missed a beat,
just go and get it, you wont regret it one bit

While I agree with all the points made above regarding the TC, my one did use a bit of oil, I believe some did. About 1/2 litre per 100mls.

But a great bike, had it set up perfect for touring then traded it in for WC, which I am happy with(gearbox and all).

Mine burns oil but more like 500ml per 500 miles. Obviously I'd rather it didn't but it's no big deal.

Edit, that was 1/2 ltr per 1000mls.

Write ups, research and all the feedback say go for it ... but .... got too many expenses coming up .... so, my better 1/2, my bank manager and with work likely to go pear shaped in the next 18months, the NO vote won
