Ten reasons why the 2006 1200 GSA is a bag of shit

it's a shame you are having the problems you list perhaps the 1200 is too 'sophisticated' for what you are doing with it:comfort maybe you should take a leaf out of austin vance's book and use a bike that is simple.
Me i am sticking with my 1100:thumb2

sophisticated? fragile and unnecessarily complicated , more like,
big price to pay for a few mph, and a slightly lighter bike

The punishment your bike takes would probably highlight problems on any bike. I think the first year of any bike is always a risky buy as yours is but it could also have happened on a newer bike. Bottom line is shit happens, deal with it and continue your adventure:thumb2

nah he's not dealing with it, he's crying in a tent mongolia like Bormeman and OB1 missing his mammy.....

course he's dealing with it, just like other 1200 owners, venting spleen when the bike fails to live up to the makers BS advertising....:thumb2

he's done the americas on 1150/1200 already so he aint no crybaby:cool:

So WTF was he not better prepared:nenau, fair enough you may never predict every spare that you'll need but anybody can see on here the common ones, FPC, Ring Antenna. Not carrying the correct tools and fluids isn't just a school boy error it's f**kin stupid :augie

PS enjoy the trip :thumb2

go and read his ride reports. Great laugh. Oisin has no ego, unlike some on here:thumb2

Because BMW say it's UNSTOPPABLE so he shouldn't need any spares :augie

You wouldn't buy a new razor blade and expect it to be blunt :augie ;)

'Crybaby'??? Your words not mine I always maintain utmost respect for the guy especially as he's built like a brick shithouse

The point I was making was that posts like this trigger the my bikes better than your bike brigade

Citroen Suspension fluid is the same stuff as the clutch fluid.....;)

Oisin,

If you are still looking for Aral Vitamol ZH-M hydraulic fluid, you could try a Meredes Benz dealership.

I passed this exact information over the phone on tuesday ( or was it weds) ;)

You can also use rolls royce/bentley suspension fluid, but i don't think their dealership chain reaches mongolia ...

Indeed it was a rant made in good humour. I am sure he is dealing with it stoically.

If he had wanted any sympathy for his plight he would (and probably has) posted this on a dedicated KTM forum.

If I drove a brand new Range Rover out of the showroom and into the Amazonian Rain forest without any special preparation, would you laugh at me or sympathise?

Love to know how many miles and over what sort of terrain this bike has covered.....I'm guessing a fair few over 4 years. Good on you keep it going and good luck:thumb2:thumb2

Your right I wouldn't expect a razor blade to be blunt, but are you seriously saying that if some marketing man says it's 'unstoppable' you going to believe him? Maybe it's because I've been a mechanic for 20years that makes be believe nothing is 'unstoppable', on a different subject the word 'gullible' has been missed from the latest Oxford dictionary :blast

What's wrong with having a rant?:nenau

He's stuck in the arse end of nowhere with a bike that's fecked; I'd be having a rant as well.

Would you really expect to carry a T55 or whatever the size is of the big screw that keeps the handguard on? I know I never thought of it when I did a tour.......or perhaps the keyboard warriors here always carry one when they are heading out into the wilds of Wales/Scotland/Ireland miles and miles away from the nearest dealership:augie

... repairs to my final drive...yep I'm a fat bastard so this may be my fault....

Apparently over 50% of UK residents are "fat bastards" so you are not alone in fact you have the majority and BMW should bla...bla...bla...their market and build bikes bla...bla...bla ... fit their customers :toungincheek

guy is having a humorous rant on a gs site about a gs, if you dont get it:comfort ...just because others are having a jibe at BM and their claims of unstoppable dont make tossers gullible.....
