Ten reasons why the 2006 1200 GSA is a bag of shit

guy is having a humorous rant on a gs site about a gs.....

...but it ain't humorous. If he's trying to be a comedian, he's failed badly. All he's done is convince me that he went to the ends of the earth with no forethought or preparation.

...and yes - to another contributor, I would take a T55 bit if I was going Mongolia.

Mongolia FFS - what kind of spares/backup do you expect to find there? "Excuse me, can I borrow a Torx T55 bit, please"

Dream on!

You'd think he'd insulted your wives the way your going on. It's his bike and i think he's qualified to have his own opinion. Yours may differ but is no more valid. And as for preperation, perhaps he should have took a support vehicle with him for all the one off tools and spares he'd need, but then that wouldn't be in the spirit now would it:rolleyes:

I can't believe some of the snide and generally negative comments being posted re. Oisin. and his travels.

Sadly it seems to be the way this site is going :blast

Y.....And as for preperation, perhaps he should have took a support vehicle with him for all the one off tools and spares he'd need, but then that wouldn't be in the spirit now would it:rolleyes:

Yeah - that's fine, but don't blame poor preparation and planning on the bike! A T55 bit and some sensible extras don't exactly need a support vehicle, shirley?

The whole tale could have been humorous and compelling if it had centred around the problems he encountered and how he solved them, but no - he chose to just slag the bike off.

i imagine Ted Simon had everything too...:augie

IIRC correctly some local mongolians had to fix a RTW bike cause even with 2 back up vehicles they still got the job done locally....

about time you got your humour tubes serviced.....:thumb2

I had a 06 GSA and I thought it was great, that is until I had it valued for a trade in and the BMW technician informed me it was a bag of shite as the rear axil was about to fail and the rear disc was warped and this was from the same bloke that had serviced it througout its warrenty period which had just expired!!

Giving a report of a GSA like that where he is, wheres he's going - being in the thick of it he has to be right, very easy to say what he should have had.:rob

Oisin,
Great travel thread I'm thoroughly enjoying following it.
I would suspect that by this stage of your journey, tiredness, frustration and loneliness are bound to get a grip now and again and it's human nature to have a rant.
After your travel thread this is most probably the most interesting thread that's been on here for a while,it certainly highlights some peoples true colours.
I for one would say, if you need a rant you have one fella.
Good luck with the rest of your adventure, don't forget it's the moments of adversity and the moments of euphoria that make it the adventure it has become.

Stay safe,

Steve.

Couldn't agree more :thumb2

This guy's at the sharp end, comments about 'poor preparation' etc. are just lame IMHO

Perhaps not :augie

Oisin-poor rant-very poor, most of your gripes you could have researched and prepared for;

Isn't the point you shouldn't have to? Just remind me how much you pay for one of these?
If you were REALLY going to design a machine that was going to do what BMW advertise it was designed to do, then it would have had a very different spec. I'm afraid the 1200GSA is designed for a market of riders with lots of dosh and only go off road in their dreams. Mmmmmm..... I think I'll stick with my 1150 GSA SE, still on TKC80s, owned from new and not thinking of changing. Why would I?

ah but the tossers on here they'll jump on those who believe the lies, i mean 'advertising', for being so gullible.....i mean imagine, 2 luvvies, trained actors, taking BuMW's around the world and top to bottom sponsored by said manufacturer and telling everyone these machines are unstoppable...tsk tsk...shame on you.

aye half these guys sit in their garages polishing them while looking at big posters of said bike off roading in mongolia, sth america, morroco, with 'unstoppable' scrawled across them hanging behind their bikes..

Mmmmmm..... I think I'll stick with my 1150 GSA SE, still on TKC80s, owned from new and not thinking of changing. Why would I?

+1

I refer the above to post 50 of this thread

The 'my bike's better than yours' numpties, it appears you are also one who listens to 'these fools' despite implying you aren't :augie

Nick, i agreed with borderbob on his choice of bike.....if you read anything else into it, g'luck t'ya......

ps i much preferred the abc warriors in 2000AD..Joe Pineapples:cool:

pps this is my final word on it...:eek

That lot gave me a giggle or two.. I can see both sides of it- we are very protective about our choices and some of us are honest! Mine an 06 and Ive had it from new- its well-known to Coopers in T'QWell, cos sadly, I ride it.
Its got 66k on it and today its packed up- but thats now reason to dis it.
I wish more of you didnt ruide yours- as during the winter its easy to pop in and have a wee job done- this time of year its a months wait.

Ive had 5 final drives and 4 gearboxes.
Ive had 2 front timing covers- laquer comes off
Ive had two panier sets and brackets- cos Its either been knocked over or I have and everthing breaks/snaps
It burns a bit of oil- but now as much as the 1150 I had before it.
Th CANBUS is an arse if you want to plug stuff in- the Gerbin for instance- so I connect direct.
I cant pick it up if I drop it.
Srews come loose- but Thats what w/end maintenance is for.
Ive had 2 sets of stick-coils go.

the trouble is.. I cant think of any other hack that will do 100 miles a day and stand the test of time/roads/winters..

"Ive had 5 final drives and 4 gearboxes"

:eek in 66k?

Indeed! And not a wheelie in sight! The one before Xmas was a shocker as I was belting down the M23 into London with a grudge on- then the back wheel collapsed as I was in the o/side lane! Coopers stated it was the worst they had seen. Then it went a few weeks this side of the New Year. So, no exaggeration and a quick word with Steve Franklin of Coopers and mention my name and he'll vouch for me!
