I need a 2 berth tent for our upcoming trip to Morocco in April. Something very light and preferably one with the ability to be free standing.

The T'tech catalogue has an MSR one, but it's £200 squid1

I'd welcome some suggestions, good dealers, similar tent suggestions please.

thanks

Will

Geta cheap one from Millets in the winter sale, then leave it in Morroco once you're finished with it.

You won't need anything decent...it's warm enough there now, dry enough and even a cheop tent can be pitched free standing with a few rocks........

I've posted this site in other forums, they usually have some bargains and P&P is included in the price.

Usual disclaimer, I only know them as a customer and have been quite happy with the service.

Hi Will,

consider the Coleman Cobra range.

We use a Cobra 3 - it's less than 4kg including pegs, and fits easily into my 40 litre H&B topbox, but is absolutely huge inside. Doesn't look it, due to its shape, but get inside one - ours takes a double airbed, with enough room at the feet to store lids and bike clothes adn plenty of room around the airbed for other stuff.

Has nice features like side pockets big enough for books or magazines, plus a vent that can be opened from inside the tent.

It stood up to some monster winds last August Bank Holiday on Angelsey.

However, it isn't a free standing tent (it's a wedge shaped tunnel with two poles), and it does pitch inner first. Not ideal in rain, but it's so quick to put up it hasn't been a problem for us.

Khyam Eiger 2-man tent, cost about £89, erects in seconds. Almost perfect. Only drawback for me is that when collapsed it's a bit long, too long to go in the panniers or top box, so I use the largest waterproof Ortleib rolltop bag. Which is great. All the camping stuff (tent, Therm-a-rest self inflating mattress, groundsheet, sleeping bag, pillow, etc) goes in the one bag.

Bought a Vango Dome 300 for about £40 from the BMF, they do them at most outdoorsey type shops, loads of room for two, cheap enough to leave there (or donate to a very happy smiley local kid??) unless you intend doing more of the same.

I have an REI Half Dome 2 tent that I bought in the USA last spring. It has won awards this year.

It is a two man tent with vestibules on the side rather than at the end. Makes for a nice layout. It stood up to the worst of Princetown with just 6 pegs and no guy ropes.

I want to trade up to a bigger tent so it's yours for £50 including postage if you are interested. Only used twice - BMF and Princetown. Still very good condition. As a bonus it comes with an extra purpose-made groundsheet to go under the inner tent. Packed size is 7"x23". Weight 5lb 8oz.

Inner tent can be used on its own in hot climates - the Yanks do this all the time.

Outer is a "unique" mustardy yellow colour.
