hi all,

im looking at getting a tent very soon but i have 1 thing that really bugs me... all the tents i have seen have a vestibule area BUT the ground sheet is seperate from the "sides" this means u get dirt/mud water etc into the vestible.

does anyone know of any tents that have an attached or zip in vestibule groundsheet that will be the same arrangement as the main tent area????

i liked the look of the coleman phad x3 but the vestibule sheet isnt attached.

i think i might be pissing in the wind with this one but you never know!

if you mean you want a tent with the ground sheet attached to the external skin?

I think your :monkeypiz in the wind...

Ok, you will get mud etc inside... but with a ground sheet attached to the external skin, you will also get condensation, which means your inner will get wet which is bad

no mate, like this................

see the big gap between the vestibule ground sheet and the vestibule section of the tent? that is what i dont like as ll the crap dirt/mud etc gets its way onto the groundsheet and your bags.

im after a tent that has the vestibule groundsheet attached to the sides so the mud dirt etc cant get into that area... follow me??

Outwell tents do a complete attached groundsheet system that your looking for but they don't do anything smaller than 3 man tents that have vestibles as well.

A few manufacturers are starting to bring out groundsheets that velcro to the base of the tent but I'm unsure in this would cover the vestible area.

the advantage of a seperate sheet for the vestible is it's easy to clean when it does get dirty, imagine trying to do that with a fixed groundsheet.

What the feck is a vestibule?

Vestibule or Vestibulum can have the following meanings, each primarily based upon a common origin, from early 17th century French, derived from Latin vestibulum, -i n. "entrance court".

Just get whatever tent you like, and add a groundsheet to the "vestibule" ...... use velcro so it can be removed and washed seperately.

Well thats what Id do.

My Gelert Tornado 3

£34.99

Sorry to jump in this post.

Are you happy with this tent? I am looking to buy one for the East Midlands meet. I have got no experience with camping equipment (well except a long long time ago), don't really want to spend lots of money, and I won't be using it every week (yes before anyone jump in, I know, you get what you pay for...). I have seen it for £19.99 at gooutdoors.co.uk. My other choice was the Grus from Black for just under £50 (if anyone knows it, I will appreciate any feedback)
Thanks

Take a look at this:

http://outdoorsrus.co.uk/vmchk/Sunncamp-Tents/Sunncamp-Evolution-300-3-Person-Tent.html

We have the 400 it's just about what your asking for. It has the fully sewn-in ground sheet, easy up, easy down and a good size.

Val.

PS; I don't think the picture does it justice, the photo makes it look a bit flat and wide.

Why not just take your boots off outside the tent and step onto a nice clean groundsheet? If it's p*ssing down with rain you should place your boots upside down on a couple of stout sticks so the rain washes them clean, or roll the edge of the groundsheet back ro stand them on the ground :nenau

Hi Rob

I think some good points have been made. A tent with an attached floor on the porch is likely to increase condensation. Also, by its very nature the floor of the porch is likely to get dirty or wet with coming & going and if it's attached will probably get more dirty with time. I can't say I've had a lot of trouble with mud or water getting in underneath and when it did could probably have been avoided with a well-placed tarpaulin or sheet of polythene.

Sounds like the velcro option might be worth trying.

yep very true, ill think ill have a go for the velcro option and see what happens - but ill prob never get round to doing it .... but i might surprise myself! :augie:augie

cheers for all the comments and suggestions.

I can recommend the Kyham Biker tent.Loads of space, for panniers and luggage.I opted for a H/D groundhseet along with it which covers the whole tent footprint. Not fixed in but once under the tent works very well. It's can be put up in under 1 minute due to it's clever design. The inner tent can be pre-hung as well, which is very handy if the weather is damp.See pic below.
