testing 800xc & 800gs

I am following the fawning over the 800XC with interest. But even after binging a lot and reading a million forums, I still can't find answers to the questions I really want answered. Most of them revolve around perceived flaws in the 800GS:

Gearing - how is it in 1st? the GS is a tad tall, requiring a lot clutch-slipping for slow speed control. Wonder how the XC stacks up?

Electrickery - I long for simple bike I can work on at home. Does the XC need me to run to the dealer for computer resets every time I take out the battery? Is it CANBUS or trad?

Disabling ABS - how? Does it reset every time you cycle the power?

Vulnerability - the GS air intakes get mashed easily when you turn the bike upside down...wondering what the vulnerable areas of the XC are. Guess not many have been dropped yet!

Fuel - what is the RON rating? Does it have a knock sensor? Will it cope with "3rd world" fuel grades?
 
The XC is not a CAN BUS system it is traditional if that is the right word.
