Textiles?

Which brand of excellent merino undercrackers etc does one recommend to the fellow rider?

An excellent question.

Fussy as I am about such matters, my preference is for:

Socks from Smartwool. The ones I chose are the black men’s Hike Classic Edition. These are thin, though I use them in winter too, sometimes with my electric socks.

Pants from Smartwool, too

All the tops from Icebreaker, where I was lucky enough to get some with the quarter zips.

Long Johns, from Icebreaker

A lot of the kit I bought about 20 years ago in a ‘closing down for the summer sale’ in a ski shop in Austria. Looked after, they are still going strong today.

An excellent reply Richard, in an equally a good measure.

Thank you.

It really is important to look after Merino wool garments. That doesn’t mean not wearing the kit, they are certainly strong enough for that. Rather, washing them out on getting back and putting the stuff away, preferably bagged, as any moths will feast on it. Now and again I find a small hole, which I have had stitched up promptly.

Expensive kit but, with care, will last for years.

Darning things up?! That is so last century! Spent many hours darning socks (my own naturally) as a kid.

I recall program on the one eyed guru some year ago. It was about some well to do hotshot (alexander or something) from Manchester, who used his undercrackwers and sock once and in the bin they went same evening. Mind you he was huge headed, as he purchased a plot of land or something in Greece if memory serves me right. Following on from that he named the town after himself.

Edit:

Found it, Millionaire buys town - and names it after himself

Just think, if you’d darned other people’s, you’d now be owning and naming your own island….. somewhere in the Baltic :D

Under Armour during the summer and some of the Klim aggressor stuff too, Merino during the winter, the super dry Ski sale is normally pretty good for thior the rukka layer that came with. Helps with the sweaty "shuch" one can suffer from
