Are they one & the same thing?

I have a 2000 1150Gs that's fitted with a y-piece & Remus can (not Revolution). Bike goes well, seen 122mph on the clock & 55mpg when bimbling about at 70mph in the country.

It pops & bands once or twice on the overun on a closed throttle as the revs drop down to 2,500rpm. I'll be checking for leaky exhaust joints later.

Assuming the joints are okay, what is the best route to eliminate the popping & banging: TFI/Techlusion or Chip? Is it worth installing a K&N air filter? I've heard that the Techlusion R259 can only add fuel(?) - how does it deal with a bike that's running rich elsewhere in the rev range?

I don't want to gain top end power at the expense of midrange power.

Thanks in advance

Steve

Already spoken to TTS - £250 + VAT for the TFI inc. rolling road/dyno setup.

Still want to know if TFI & Techlusion are the same thing?

I'd also appreciate hearing the experiences of those who have used them & not just rely on the words of those who sell them.

Thanks

Steve

I had a Techlusion fitted by TTS about 12mths ago. It was great but fuel comsuption suffered!!

Was getting 200+ but dropped to around 170 - 180 ish afterwards.

Techlusion

Techlusion = company

TFI = Techlusion Fuel Injection, or something similar.

When I had the 1150 and fitted Y piece the bike ran very lean.

TFI box adds more fuel and allows you to adjust CO reading for optimal performance or economy.

More Info - http://www.techlusion.com/

Techlusion was set up by one of the founders of Dynojet apparently!!

Thanks for the info, appreciated.

Exhaust not leaking, so must be running slightly somewhere. Changed the plugs a few days, they were a little lighter in colour than I'd like.

What about Power Commanders - any one used one, any good?

I holed a piston on my my 2000 1150gs about 2500 miles after fitting a y-piece and remus revolution. I fixed her up with second hand bits then got her dyno'd. She was running dangerously lean during top gear roll ons 60 - 80 mph.

Like you I am now searching for an affordable chip or techlusion. In the meantime I've stuck the cat and original end can back on. I think the adjustability of the techlusion makes it the better bet. All GS's seem to leave the factory as complete individuals, no two are the same! So a chip might work ok but the techlusion allows for some fine tuning. I wouldn't worry about it only adding fuel because I doubt if your bike is running rich anywhere (mine certainly isn't). I don't believe power commander make anything that suits a GS so I've narrowed my choice down to the following:

1. Techlusion at about £220
2. BB Power Chip at about £250
3. Laser chip (should work ok with a remus) at about £160
4. Sell my Y-piece and end can and spend the money on sweeties!

All of the above are my conclusions after a bit of research so I'd be glad to read some opinions on the benefits of the techlusion over the chips, especially given the competitive price of the laser chip.

techlusion

I fitted the k&n filter, y piece and remus 'not for road use' end can.

I then had it dynoed, it showed that the bike was running lean.
The techlusion was fitted, this ups the fueling especially under acceleration.

I have also disconnected the lambda sensor.

My advice would always to get it dynoed, all engines are different.

Also if you want performance get a different bike.

Then you can have a dyno curve like this :

last time i looked into this, the wisdom was that if you remove the cat - you needed to take the the yellow 'cat code plug' out from the fuse box as well (and reset the motronic). this programs the motronic to run in a more 'basic' mode, enriching the mixture quite a bit. i've run mine like this for a while now and i reckon that my bike runs slightly over-rich like this (backfiring and marginally lower MPG) - but is safer than running too lean.

apparently in some markets a different (pink) plug is fitted. i'll try this plug one day to see if it runs the bike richer than the yellow plug, but leaner than with no plug - if that makes sense!

pr0ne

PS I would LOVE a positve, definative, final and correct explaination to the whole cat code plug issue!! preferably with the outcome that the mysterious 'pink' plug will fuel the bike correctly for running without a cat.... ;-)

I reset the motronic and refitted the lambda but could not remove the cat code plug because my bike didn't have one. I've read on this forum that some are yellow, some are pink and some just aint there. This underlines my point that no two bikes are the same, perhaps mine was found to be running lean when it plopped off the end of the production line and was therefore not fitted with a plug!?? My bike is a May 2000 if anybody knows if the date of manufacture has anything to do with the above.

This is pure speculation and I'm not even sure if BWM know what a cat code plug does.

If I ever buy another GS, I for one will not purchase a GS that has had a y-piece and can fitted and does not come with a couple of dyno charts confirming that the fuelling is ok (or is ok in as far as a dyno can test). Even then I'd be looking for a standard bike or one with a chip or techlusion.

I'd recommend you get your bike dyno'd prOne. You may think the bike is running slightly rich but I'd be surprised if it wasn't lean somewhere in the rev range. It's worth it for the piece of mind I reckon. It cost me £220 to fix my bike with second hand parts (piston, cylinder etc, etc). If I had to pay for labour at a dealers who knows what the final bill would have been. That £220 should have been spent on a techlusion but I like to learn the hard way!
