TFT screen dead

There is no "official" word or advice from BMW that suggest not pairing both the NAV & TFT. But the setup instructions mention nothing about pairing it. And nearly every time it pops up on here you will read the term "either or" which is the exact advice i received from my dealership.
The instructions for Bluetooth connection do state : Other Bluetooth devices must be off eg Navigation systems.
Devices to connect are :
Mobile device (Data)
Riders helmet
Passengers helmet.
When set up as directed using a Bluetooth headset (BT4) it works . Attempting to also connect the NAV will cause issues. And IMHO unnecessary.
Im sure with future SW updates all these issues will be ironed out.

Ok, fair enough, and pretty much in line with my own experimentation(either/or). Again, I'm pretty positive BT4 is NOT a requirement.... BMW own BT headset can handle(aside from pairing hiccups due to buggy TFT software) phone calls/music/volume control and is only BT 2.0 or 2.1.

I guess my dealership was kind of reluctant to flat out tell me not to pair both Nav6 and TFT at the same time since, at the time I bought my helmet, I specifically told them I switched from Schuberth to BMW to make sure everything was compatible(I don't think they purposefully sold me incompatible devices, they were kept in the dark as much as we did)....

I agree that between the TFT and Nav, a lot of functionality is redundant, but the GPS navigation on the mobile app is in no way a worthy replacement for the bona fide Nav 6 Garmin unit, so not being able to get voice prompts from the true GPS on an adventure bike is kind of a joke.

Oh well... who am I kidding... the CONNECTED app can take me to the closest Starbucks....

Ill try and find out where i was advised that it requires BT 4. But after receiving that info I binned my cardo , a year old unit and cost £180, for a new Sena Evo costing £230.
I can honestly say, in the years ive had sat navs, either in the car or on the bike, ive never ever used the voice prompts. I cant think of anything worse. And the basic Connected app navigation works ok. I like that you can pull the phone out of your pocket, click a location on the map and then navigate to it instantly. I used it several times whilst away.

Oh, I totally agree, the Connected app has its uses(and the voice prompts are even crispier and clearer when activated) but there is no way you can make it follow a road book comprising many via points that you prepared offline. It's perfect for going to a particular address in a city but for a more ambitious tour it's just worthless... Voice prompts I tend to disable also, but then again, for road trips with tricky junctions along long stretch of motorway, you might want something to prevent you from missing an exit, or want to hear special POI alert (hint hint speed traps POIs).

My beef is with BMW that sells the new TFT equipped GS with the NAV craddle prewired without proper heads up... NOWHERE and at NO time was I somehow alerted that both would simply not work together. I admit I didn't even ask as it seemed absurd their own technology would cause such headaches. Might be just growing pains but man... this is pretty pathetic...

The TFT and nav are connected together by hardwire. As i use it, it is perfect, toggle between them both when needed. I was so impressed that i could control my media, the NAV, my phone all on the handlebar. That set up was exactly why is chopped my triple black GSA in, which was only a year old for my new Rallye with TFT. Im very happy with it.
I am away most of the summer months on my bike abroad. The Nav i use for detailed routing.
Apparently BMW will phase out the separate NAV with a new TFT on future models.

(Warning, pedantic trigger warning alert )They are not really connected together, they are both connected to the ECU and handlebar(and the TFT can somehow sense it) but you have to manually switch controls from one to another and can only operate one at a time(cue to zooming on the map when you want to adjust the volume of a song...)

One big omission in my opinion was the lack of ability to send GPS directions steps from the NAV to the TFT when both are present on the CANBUS and when NAV is following a route... (and don't start me on the roundabout exists symbol... in 2018!!!!!!).

I also heard those bigger TFT displays with integrated GPS rumors. Kind of doubt it will happen so soon as they are still deploying the TFT across the range, from scooters to big GTs... They really need to sort out their bluetooth software tho... at this point, I kind of am hoping they will pull a page from the car division and make the next dashboard Carplay compatible (be it with a yearly fee)... I think the interface is pretty solid on the current TFT but it's apparent software is not their strenght. But why reinvent the wheel? Google maps would be better than any custom in-house solution slapped together with Here maps outdated data...

HA HA I approached a roundabout in Spain, it had the Roundabout symbol with the number of exits. 16...... LOL. Of course i took the wrong one !
This is an evolution thing. It will evolve. But i have to say, How it is right now, Im content.
Whilst away, one thing i did think was how simple it would be to put a small sidestand symbol on the dash to let you know the stand is deployed before selecting a gear and stopping the engine. We all do that.

Truth be told, I'm globally happy too... What gets to me is the nagging feeling of lack of polish of the TFT/bluetooth ecosystem, small-ish details that tarnish the overall experience.

I know time will iron out the kinks and yes, it's part of being an early adopter, but the bike itself is at the top of the game, super refined since the early stumbles of the first iteration of the LC, and that makes those little annoyances all the more apparent.
