Thank goodness for the 1200GS!

Seems to me that most/nearly all of the problems, faults and hiccups that the 1100/1150GS suffered from or developed have been well and truly ironed out, sorted, modded, repaired, bodged, and reinvented to go around at least twice over. So much so we now seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel, unless of course a new member rediscovers the 'workshop manual'.

So thank goodness Mr.B*W has come up with a replacement bike, some new challenges beckon on the horizon perhaps.

Wonder who's 1200 will be the first to display throttle inbalance, jerky transmission, peculiar noises ....from any part of the bike...engine tick, tock, tinkle, clank, donk syndrome..etc etc etc.

The 1200 was developed with the express reason to keep this site entertaining.:)

I'm sticking with the 1150 until the 1200 has proven itself.

First technical point, with twin Lambda sensors and a more complex ECU I suspect there will be a significant reduction in finger trouble....meddling....syndrome.

Ha ha ha.....

I find the problem with newer cars/bikes is technology is making them "dealer only" when it comes to repairs/service.
Looked under the bonnet of a modern car lately takes half an hour to get to the plugs.

Used to be the same when Television Sets stopped using VALVES  Nobody but Experts could Fiddle with them ;) Didn't stop sales and the definition of an Expert is "X is the unknown quantity and Spert is a Drip Under Pressure":P

tv who fixes them or videos why pay 2 fix them when u can buy a new 1 for the same price there desposable items these days

Friend of mine made a lot servicing TV's and then selling up (shame he then lost it but that's another story).

Anyway he still does repairs as a hobby and he says exactly the same.

Not sure bout the 1200GS. Saw it today at local dealer.

Much narrower and the position is far closer to the front wheel. The screen design makes the front look lighter as does the seperation of the resevoirs from the handlebar control units. Also the smaller instrument cluster does lighten the look at the front.

The rear end is also made to look lighter with a pinched view and heaps of plastics similar to the Rockster. Round the frame everything seems messy and cluttered.

Saw it beside a 1150GSA and that was looking like a big beast in comparison. Seating wise it was high but it was a high seat model so I cannot really tell.

Not at all comfortable with the Lambda sensors dropping straight down into the header tubes. Think they will get damaged quickly, especially if you do any reasonable off road work. The exposed oil filter is also a bit messy considering it is a BMW.

In fact that seems to be the approach, reduce whatever weight you can without attacking the engine weight.

But overall, it is the tank which puts me off, narrow and very plastic. Perhaps I am too used to the GSA.

I wonder what the 1200GSA will be like...
