Look ok, don’t they?

But no fuel been through these in a decade, so they’re full of corrosion.

Time to meet Mr vibro hot tub with a bit of the good stuff in it.

Not really as good as I was hoping to be honest.

But better than they were.

I also managed a quick squirt of the techcote cans so the oil breather box and brake splitters are curing nicely.

This weekend’s task is to inventory everything against the parts book and do another mahoosive order. Cables, ignition parts, fuel taps, mirrors, grips, lots of bolts, etc etc.

Good news is I’ve found some British made stainless silencers that look OE but under half price of the Italian ones. That means I might afford to get the wheels rebuilt ....

Do the new bigger bore piston assemblies weigh the same as the old items?

Keep up the good work Nin, I'm looking forward to seeing it start coming back together.

I always wondered what level of oil filtration those big blocks had with the abscence of an external filter, now answered. :-)

Bring them up for vapour blasting.:thumb

You bet - them and everything else!

Wheel rebuilds seem a reasonable price (well if anything is reasonable) so the hubs will be coming up to you too Mike.

Packer the barrels are pretty much identical, just 5mm greater diameter internally.

Cheers Wavey, that looks lovely. Are those Keihan silencers? They are a few quid cheaper than the Bosso jobs ...

Anyway, an idle hour on the wire brushes got me from this

To this

And I don’t even know what they do - except there’s some serious load bearing damage, so I’m guessing centre stand brackets. Off to the welders then to get a bit of new metal in there.

Thanks Nin;
Yes they're Armours. Quality is lovely but I suspect they are a bit too restrictive. When I rode the donor "hot rod" Spada it flew. the same go-faster bits in my T3 haven't had the same effect, despite checking everything. It does go quicker, but not by that much. The only difference (other than the exhausts and a bit more weight and worse aerodynamics) was a RAM (lighter) clutch I didn't transfer from the Spada. That would explain some, but not all (imho) of the difference. Rob Farmer of this parish also found Armours a bit restrictive on his Guzzi rebuild. I might experiment with some cheap Dunstall knock-off megas at some point.

Those plates are for the centrestand.

I took loads of photos before I stripped mine down, then lost the phone!:blast

This is a good site for looking at how stuff routes etc;

also this one, though not as extensive;

Keep up the good work, miss my ultrasonic bath, two cheap-ish ones have crapped out on me;

Also, while I remember, I drilled out the cush drive rubbers in the rear hub (see pic) as apparently they are too hard as standard, quick job while wheel is out.

Cheers Wavey, really helpful advice there. Love drilling holes in things to make them better! Mini suspension rubbers come to mind...

Just off to get my hour in the sun with the pooch, apparently “I’m taking too long”

But talking of sun I thought I’d get yesterday’s painting out to cure.

................Packer the barrels are pretty much identical, just 5mm greater diameter internally............

I was thinking in terms of the piston weight and whether the crank would need rebalancing if there was a significant difference in piston weights.

Ah, understood.

The new pistons, pins, rings and clips weigh the same as each other (well on my scales anyway), so I’m guessing there shouldn’t be a problem in balance.

I do need to sort out the carb setup I’ll need with the extra CC, but that’s problem 523, and I’m still on problem 45!

Thanks Tufty, not much progress today, drinking VE Day tea and reminiscing with the neighbours instead.
