The ‘79 California Rebuild Thread

And here’s where this particular angel has feared to tread so far. I haven’t even taken a photo of it yet. Lots of potential £££ may be needing to be sunk into this beauty.

And how about bringing the lights into the 21st century? I need a new headlight ...

Like it, do you have a link for the light?... May treat the Convert to one, it's not happy with a LED bulb though that could be the wiring of course....:)

I thought rather than leaning over these jobs inhaling brake cleaner tonight, let’s try them out in the ultrasound cleaner. Lo and behold ...

There’s evidence of a little damage in the combustion chamber (middle pic, 3 o’clock to the inlet valve) - maybe a valve compressor slipped or something, but otherwise they clean up pretty well.

Check out their French website, when I looked prices were cheaper. Worth a look. I just liked the fact that Mike built them to my pec for weight and intended use.

I'm going Ron, with my mate who has a lovely MG from the 90s, sadly I don't have one so I'll be on the GSA with all of my boxes to carry the spares he will need to get there. :D

There’ll still be plenty of room for your spares then.

Yes, I’m planning to get there on my LeMans 2 (with a puncture repair kit).

I've signed up for the TLM trip with swmbo. My 'papers' will be in by then so happily retired :thumb2. We are currently planning to hopefully carry on and do a bit of Spain after the TLM itinerary maybe ending up at our place in Menorca. Will we need a ukgser flag to recognize other tossers:D.
Sorry for hijacking your thread a wee bit Nin, looking forward to seeing the completed bike :thumb2 (id go for the led headlight as well).

Hey Nin, if it's done by next year are you (or anyone else) going to Mandello for the 100th celebrations?

Hi Ron

I’ve got a load of trips deferred from this year so I’m not making any commitments yet, but it would be a nice trip to make eh?

Paid the deposit on the TLM trip before covid hit, hopefully trip will still go ahead. I thought the TLM itinerary was pretty good. If anyone thinking of going I would start looking at accommodation / campsites now cos before lockdown my brother tried to book stuff as he's hoping to travel from Menorca and there was nothing available. (I have the details of a couple of campsites near lake como that do chalets as well if anyone interested).

“Daddy, daddy, what does a completely fecked exhaust valve look like?”

“Quite a lot like this, son. Quite a lot like this”

I know, and whilst I’m at it the inlet valves are about the same price.

All the valves have some wear marks where the tappets bear on the top of the stem (but nothing on the tappets fortunately). So I’ll replace the lot.

Seems odd that the seats are in much better condition. They may have been changed for unleaded ones at some point. Check the valve springs as well whilst you’re spending money!
