IMPORTANT TECHNICAL NOTE:
R1200GS has about 120Watts of 'extra" power thus up to 60W remains available for other devices or lamps. Please note that while drawing 120W (for example 040-1514 + 040-4514), your system may sustain this load, but there is no power remaining to add charge to the battery. If you elect to use two 60W lights, it is adviseable to include a small interrupt switch to the trigger wire to deactivate one of the lights if necessary. This 040-1514 HID lamp is triggered by relay to turn on with the high beam. An interrupt switch is NOT provided in the kit.

As seen on Toutatech-USA website... Is this true ?

If yes, does it mean that products like this one from BestRest ([2x55W Driving]+[2x55 Fogs]) will simply deplete the battery in a few days ?

I can't sort out the truth from the sales bulls*it, thanks in advance for your help...

I suppose if you had all lights on + fogs + driving lights + heated vest in aux socket, etc. it would.

Again, no replacement for common sense!!

Lights look good though don't they:D

An easy solution to save a few watts is to turn off the main bike headlights using the turn signal cancel trick (posted on another thread).. then illuminating the county/shire/district with those massive driving light / fog lights. The main headlights are of no use, once you have those babies on!

Isn't there a red "charging" warning light if the battery is discharging?

Technically I think the battery warning will come on when the voltage across the battery is not enough to charge it ... but that amounts to the same thing.

120W of "spare" power sounds like a very small amount to me. That would mean that the bike is taking 480W or 40 amps!

I fitted some extra driving lights to my old fazer 600, they were a total of 110 watts and I never had any battery problems. I would have expected the GS to have a bigger generator than a 600. But that's just my gut feeling - I think BMW are being very conservative with the 120W figure.

Monsieur

What're those two mini-sub-machine-gun-thingies pointing out from under the beak? Is it a standard fit and I'm too blind to notice yet or has the 007 accessory brochure arrived?

Watts UP !!

Well, I ride my 1200 with the main light on with both 55 watt Piaa's on and at the same time run the electric jacket on full. To boot I also am using the electric handwarmers on high. Do this all the time this last month. At no time did I have any electric troubles. Starts fine and no indications anything would be wrong, its got 6oo watts working. Cheers.
