After nearly six years living here in rural Austria where I really don't need an alarm it had to go. A Datatool System 3, I have to say it has always worked as intended, I just don't need it. It was a nuisance, being self arming the bloody thing was always there. In the UK I accept they may be needed, if only to keep the insurance people happy, but not here in Maltatal were the last reported car or bike theft was over 30 years ago!

I have thinking about just removing it for too long, today I took the plunge. I wish I had done it years ago, it took just over an hour. With the tank off all the wiring is visible, just in case I marked all the wires to be cut so that I could put it back. All of the alarm wire are plain black so I presume they were marked before fitting bit the markings were cut off. So just a matter of cutting off the spliced in wires and joining those that had been bridged. All joints were soldered and then sealed with heat shrink tubing.

The bike fired up first time and I only about 10 weeks now until I can put it back on the road. Most locals wait until the beginning of May but I have a cunning plan for an April jaunt.

Anyway to anyone wishing to remove such an alarm I say just go ahead, as long as you proceed one step at a time there are no hidden problems

If you had asked, years ago - I'd have told you the terminals in the unit ...... to link out. Means you can leave the unit fitted with as much realiability as you have now.

Ah but think how much faster the bike will be now without all that weight.

Blackal,
could you PM Me with the said details please !

Datatool 3 - what a TOTAL PIECE OF SHITE

any bike with one fitted -I don't buy.

I have to say mine was fitted from new so worked without any problems for 10 years. Maybe some are fitted badly or I was just lucky. Removed it only because there is no need for it here, I can and do just leave the keys in the bike.

You say that but someone has nicked the front wheel.....!

Somebody looks at the pictures! Front wheel and forks were out, needed to repaint the fork bridge.

Can't ride the thing now so I might as well give the old girl a bit of TLC

Why do people fit alarms in the first place, I really don't see the point :nenau

I've lived in dodgy parts of London and Nottingham with only on street parking for all my bikes.

I've owned new bikes and snotters.

And I've never had to have one fitted due to insurance requirements.
