(according to none other than Scottish celebrity chef (:augie) Nick Nairn anyway...)

The Ship Inn, Elie.

I was gonnie suggest haen a wee meet there and see if he's right but any time I pass there, it's mobbed and a group of us would struggle to get seats.

I still dinnae believe it'll be better than yon place in Ullapool at The Clans last year :beerjug:

Sounds like a good excuse for a rideout. Anywhere with a chippie gets my vote.:thumb2

Yup, I like the chippy in Ullapool, but it's not a patch on The Trawler at Golspie..on the interesting bit of the A9...which is nice.

I thought 2010 was going to be the year of 'Coffee at a Distillery'.....I'll be very happy if it's a run for a chip shop instead......:D

There's a chippie in Aberdour - you could combine lunch with a visit to the distillery :augie

Al :D

Theres quite a few nice chippers down that part of the Fife coast, I must admit I think the one at Anstruther is overated but still not bad.

You could have another run to the DaftMill Distillery and lunch at Elie or tother way round.

Daftmill aren't open to the public and I doubt if the owner would give us another tour TBH.

How about run around the East Neuk of Fife (some nice B class roads and villages) before lunch.

If you you want to incorporate a whisky theme, how about a seperate meet at Crieff for The Famous Grouse Experience and then run up to Boxertools bench over the Sma' Glen?

The Best Fish And Chips In Scotland

"Well there going to be the ones you took up with you from LEEDS or West Yorkshire!
The best place for fish and chips in the hole wide world! :D))

Big D

Trust me I have eaten a few! lol

I haven't been for a long time, but the special supper at Alari's in Dunfermline (just up from the Glen main gates across from the entrance to that big car park under that bridge IYSWIM) was always 1st class.

The same delicacy from Eddie Ferrari's chippy in Oakley was similarly tasty (is it still going) ?

No clue on the distillery or belting B roads front for either chippery though I'm afraid (I'll get my coat)

Bervie Chippie

I have always liked the Bervie Chippie at Inverbervie. Certainly for the chips.

Not sure about the new one on the A90.

Also the Ashvale in Aberdeen but that is really for the Giant Haddock Supper, which is massive.

Now, if you want someone to go round them all and test them out to make a definitive top 10, let me know. I have a few dates free in my diary.....

Bervie Chipper is not near as good now, changed ownership some time back:(
The chippie in the neighbouring village of Gourdon (Hornblowers) is much better:D Its on the pier and the boat empties the haddock straight in:thumb

Never tried the original Bervie Chipper, but we had a sit-in at the one on the A90 about a year ago, and it was a real disappointment, although since it was that long ago I forget what was so bad about it - but the food was definitely under par. Despite using that road a lot last winter, we never went back - went to the Forfar McD instead.

Tail End - Leith Walk

The guy who had the chippie in Anstruther opened this ''plaice'' about a year ago. Chippie on one side, sit down Restaurant part on the other. He's in business with a fisherman and offers a good half dozen or so different kinds of fish. Worth a look if you're down that way, very nice indeed. It's licensed too, but if you fancy going for a pint elsewhere afterwards, don't go next door to Priscillas, unless you really like cabaret and are a friend of dorothy.

Townhead cafe in Biggar does a braw fish supper and the roads down that neck o the woods are not too bad . The Broughton brewery is nearby and do some lovely ales :thumb2:thumb2 i'm sure the North East bretheren would come out to play as well .. just a thought :nenau:nenau

having said that , Ronnos East Neuk run sounds the dugs baws . i aint spent much time up there an could hopefully nip ower tae Arbroath tae get ma auld maw some smoakies

The Silvery Tay is our local chippy, fish and chips are pretty good there. Didn't think much of their fishcakes though - had them the other day and won't be having them again. And having to wait just means you've got time to go the the Spar next door and choose your accompanying beverage... :augie
