Allihies again.. but off to Asia soon....
Been perusing this site reading the threads...

So do I use Media Monkey or the Mozzila thing....

Do I download Music Rescue or sommet else????

What do I want?

To be able to upload and download music to and from Ipods without using Itunes..

I know there are loads of threads, but before I start downloading, could I have recommendations from actual users please...

What I do (and I'm new to iPod stuff) is do all the manipulating of files with MediaMonkey like renaming tracks, levelling volume, converting to mp3, adding artwork etc. and then when I'm happy I load the finished file to iTunes so that it syncs to the iPod.
I can sync them from MM but the way I'm doing it at the moment seems to be working better for me right now.

your just a facking showoff you are:D:D

I am exasperated with the lot of it, I love my music, and have loaded lots of Cd's onto my pod, then purchased about 300 tracks from Apple Corp and put them on the pod too. Two events then conspire against me, 1/ home computer self destructs and cannot be repaired, no worries all my music is on the pod, 2/ trouble is, the battery is on its last legs, so I order a new one from the net, as expected installation is fraught with banana skins and I trash the pod :blast.
In the vain hope of pacifying me, my wife recovers about 50% of my pod sounds using electronic trickery and loads it onto a replacement pod, thing is I have lost music that I have purchased from Apple Corp and I have no redress.
As ever the game moves on and I am now the proud owner of a Zumo 550, so it makes sense to load my music onto that, no computer says NO, Apple purchased stuff is in a different format, so I have to convert using Media Monkey to MP3.
I thought the music I had paid for was mine to do what I want with, but seemingly that is not the case.
I may have to give up my job, so that I can give sufficient time to conquer this problem.

The iTunes T&Cs are quite clear that music can only be downloaded once (Apps can be downloaded again) however a friend of mine had a computer crash and lost all his music and he contacted Apple and, after listening to the lecture of backing up his music, they allowed him to downlaod all the previously purchased music. So it might be worth contacting Apple and seeing if you can get some helpful support agent. If you don't ask you don't get ;)

I'm new to the iPod myself but I can do all the above in iTunes quite easy, or am I missing something ?

No, it's probably me who's missing something. I've been playing with MediaMonkey for a while and know my way around it better. iTunes is new and unfamiliar to me.

I became totally fed up with microshaft windows, apple itunes and all the money grabbing that goes with it and moved over to Linux. Its free, seems to work well ie no crashes, not enough viruses to worry about and you can use Amarok to talk to your IPOD. It also lets you share music around different IPODs. I havent tried Media Monkey so not sure if I'm recommending the same sort of thing....
