Hello boys and girls.
I have just joined the forum (and paid my subs) after four years of 1150gs ownership.
Can somebody help me with this. My bike is 2001 (Y) SINGLE SPARK. My HES has 5 wires including the clear sheath wire with the square block connector. Will the 4 wire HES fit or not?
Thanks a lot Shaun.

I'm not quite sure what you are referring too.

Are you referring to the Bosch ignition trigger 0232101093 which is very similar to the BOignsen-R277, same plate same sensors same connector, but only has 4 wires at the connector, and has a missing screen.

The short answer is yes, but if you do experience problems, which could be attributed to noise, you could always slip some braided screening over the entire loom and connect the screen at the connector,so it passes through to the bike loom

there are two types of HES listed, with two different plugs one for earlier models one for later, I have no idea if they can be swapped by altering the wiring, do you have one already? if not then its a simple job to identify which plug you have and buy the correct replacement

Thanks for the swift reply. My plate is a Bosch but the part number is 0232101034. Five wires 1 clear 2 black 3 brown 4 red 5 orange and square / oblong plug. Ordered a HES from John Sherlock and he sent a 4 wire plugged HES. I didn't fit this in case I broke it and he could not understand why my bike had a 5 wire square plug HES. He sent me the earlier 5 wire flat plug HES which I have hard wired in. I should explain here why I changed the HES. Bike just started to cut out when hot. Would restart but after about half a mile cut out again re start etc. I thought it was water in the fuel or fuel filter blocked. Cleaned tank replace filter but still the same. Checked all the obvious ignition switch loom and other connectors but all seemed ok so went for HES. Forgot to say I have also replaced the battery and cleaned the fuel tank breathers. The bike now starts better than it ever has but it still has the same fault. I am wondering that by soldering in the new HES I may have heat damaged it. Any ideas or suggestions most welcome.
Regards Shaun.

The Hall sensor with the connector on the left is the one for the R1150 series. There are only 4 wires used, no screen.

The Hall sensor with the connector on the Right is the one for the R1100 series. There are 5 wires used. One is a screen.

If you are trying to fit the 5 wire sensor to your bike leave the screen unconnected.

Irrespective of whatever colour the wires are, both sensors are wired the same at the connector 2 and 2 ..........3 and 3........ 4 and 4......... 5 and 5

Hope this makes sense

This might help a little

The connector on the left is the bike loom connector. It has 5 wires Brown, Orange, Red, Black and clear (screen). The connector on the right is the Hall sensor connector and it has only 4 wires, Green, Green, Orange and black.

Whatever sensors you have, if you have one with only 4 wires as in the picture. fit it. The 4 wire sensor has better wiring and is less sensitive to heat damage.

Still Confused ? come back!

Ian. Thank you very much for that excellent explanation. The good news is been out today and I think she is fixed (fingers crossed). As I have explained I have hard wired the earlier HES in.

Flat plugged HES is for an 1100 - rectangular plugged HES is for an 1150 .
