Spikerjack (aka Jed or Glynn) had an off yesterday. We left Coleraine early and departed for Donegal. All was fine until after Ramelton. I was up front and heading towards Rathmullan. When I arrived and awaited the big yellow 1150 and her rider, I became increasingly uneasy when it didn't arrive at the Waterside restaurant. He didn't answer his phone. 5 mins later mine rang. Poor ol' Jed sounded utterly confused and told me that he'd had an accident and didn't know where he was. I quickly back-tracked and found the carnage. He had blood pissing out of a cut on his nose and looked utterly traumatised, but was at least standing. The Guards arrived 10 mins later and then the ambulance. We got him onto a spinal board, into the ambulance and off to Letterkenny hospital for x-rays etc. He spent the night there for observation and is being picked up by Lorna today. Unfortunately they wouldn't catheterise him on my request. :(

We don't know if it was gravel or black ice, but regardless, his shoei multi-tec and BMW back-brace certainly did him proud. The helmet has been de-laminated down one side as he dragged his head down the tarmac. A bit sore in general with a sore throat from the chin-strap, but a lucky boy. You might want to leave him some well wishes for his return later...i'll post some photos of his antics if he gives the rights.

Hope you asked him first if he wanted you to splash the news across the Ireland section??? :blast

EDIT: turns out you didn't ask so i'd definitely check first on the photos :augie

you know him too; he's an attention whore. you should've heard his craic with all those southern irish nurses buzzing around him. i began to wonder had he ulterior motives in throwing himself into the woods with such abandon!

Yeah, it was bizarre because they did look ok, and then occasionally you could say there was quite clearly black ice. We're so used to snow covered lanes now that it's tempting to give it some since the snow has cleared. Although, we were genuinely riding slowly yesterday.
Hope you asked him first if he wanted you to splash the news across the Ireland section??? :blast

Yeah great that he's ok.
Hope Big Mary isn't too badly damaged!
He says he's 99% better than yesterday :aidan

feck its so easy to get caught out this time of year:blast

hope he's ok sounds it if he's giving the nurses some sauce:thumb2 fingers crossed theres not to much damage to him or the bike:comfort

Folks, thanks folks for your comments and concern.

Si and myself went out for a day of craic with the intention of enjoying ourselves on some borreens and take in the views only for this to happen.

I have absolutely no recollection of the off, one moment I was riding at about 20mph, the next I was standing on the road, with no helmet, gloves or ear poppers in, nose pishing blood, talking to a motorist(who was indeed a saint) I looked across into a shuck and saw big mary fecked. This wasn't in the plan.

The Gards came, a Garda called Conner, (nice bloke) and an ambulance and was ferried to hospital on one of those back boards. I was treated really great and I knew I was in good hands.

Si mentions me giving the nursing babes and babets a bit of the auld chat. From what I remember, as the South Africian princess was putting me down with cloroform, I could hear the bold Si using medical chat up lines like, enemas, cafiters, milk of magnesia, whats your phone number, thats a nice outfit yer wearing, at the same time taking photographs. Paparazzi have nothing on Si.

Needless to say I was more or less OK and my only injuries are a real bloodied nose which is now the size of Eddie Durantes and sore chest.

I would like to thank the hospital staff at Letterkenny, the Gards, DG 999 for his texts and above all the bold Si for letting the other half know what had happened and that I wasn't too bad.

Will post a few pics of the hemet which took a real battering and which did save me from serious injury. Anyone who doesn't wear a back protector, think again. It definately kept me right.

Thanks again folks for your concern and ride safely.

Glynn glad to hear you are not an insurance write off. You will be able to buy your body back off god after a bit of haggling and put it back on the road with a few cosmetic alterations; a better remapped chip between your ears and stuff like that. The 2010 photo rally would not be the same without you. :comfort :comfort :comfort

Spikerjack am sorry to hear about your off.....hope you get better soon and be back on the roads and sending in more pictures....................

All the Best...

Noodles.........................:aidan

Glad to hear your are up and about Jed. I know Si and David are speed demons who like to do a bit of field ploughing :D but riding with you last year was a pleasure and you are one of the safest riders I've seen.

That black ice is a tricky fecker.

How is the bike? Much damage? I hope you're back on the road soon and that Lorna doesn't ground you, ye boy ye :hug
