the horn !!

Had a sphincter moment today when a bloody cage driver decided to come into my lane on a dual carriageway , sounded the horn like a lunatic and he saw me at the very last moment , well Im still here and not a splatt mark so Ive decided to go for a louder sounding horn , has anyone tried this from nippy normans ??

The horn on such a big bike is, quite frankly laughable. I'd rather not use it. In any case it's probably just as quick to take evasive action.

Yep, the Magnum will do the trick, works well for me

Stebel Magnum for me as well and its definately loud enough for the cage drivers to take notice when you use it

I fitted the Magnum twin's which is same output as Nautilus as they were easier to find mounting points on my 1200GSA with ESA. Works a treat! I needed to fit a new wiring loom for them but well worth it.

No relay needed either... on the 1200 there's a space behind the offside panel to mount it out of the way

Changed to the Magnum a couple of years ago after a near miss. It has saved my bacon several times. As Bryn says, a straight swap with the original, no relay is needed.

I tried the single Magnum and it was OK but not great. The standard horn is rubbish. Adding the twin hi/lo's is well worth it IMHO even with the extra faff of adding a relay.

But you can get the hi/lo effect on a single Magnum by piggybacking the supply to the standard horn, then no relay needed

Very true and that's how I did mine first time around. But I was still a little disappointed as a side by side comparison with my K1100 (which as standard has twin hi/lo Fiams) showed. Having fitted the twins on the 1200 the difference is very noticable. Horses for courses of course and not everyone uses the horn afterall, but that's my opinion.

And I did test them out in an enclosed garage It was very painfull.

I know everyone loves them but I've had three and found the build quality to be, well, crap basically. I mounted carefully, out of the way of the worst of the spray etc.

Hi Bryn, what do you mean by two tone, like a police siren or is it loud then louder one it kicks off, is the noise not instant? Or do you keep on the original horn aswell? Would I need a relay or just change the connections? Sorry bout the questions!! I have been looking at getting a decent horn and fleabay seems to have plenty stebels!

So was/am I mate. It's dead straight forward. Get yourself down to Halfords and get some scotch clips (think thats them). Means you dont have to cut your wires at all - just splice a couple of extension leads onto the existing lead and add the spade connectors that come with the horn from NN. You can then keep the existing horn installed - hence the two-tone comments ie both horns sounding at the same time ?

Hope your horn lasts longer than the three I had........gave up in the end and put original back on.

You'll need to mount it ( may not go straight on the original horn mount) and fit spade connectors.... I'd suggest you get someone to give you a hand with it over a cup of tea
