The HP2 Sport has landed

Got to agree, i thought long and hard on the Ducati and came close to signing up then i saw it in the flesh at the GP.........nice but didn't give me a chubby.
I will wait till one previous owner lets it go in a years time with a handfull of track k's on it............the HP sport will probably be more exclusive, every stock jocky/real estate pro will have a Duc on order, buying it is one thing .......riding it is a whole different story. Enjoy the sport and give us plenty ride feedback please:thumb

They're looking closer now and still can't believe how outrageously tasteless it looks compared to the other bike.

:augie

Lol I thought they were looking at that red thing and wondering where they stick the key to wind it up!

Both nice bikes. Xt500 was also nice in its day.

saw a desmosedici in the flesh in a ducati dealer at the weekend.

a bit chubby jellymould. £40K? i think not.

To be honest though I still prefer the HP2….

Me too :thumb2

How and why would anyone try to compare a £40k proven thoroughbred race machine with a machine like the HP2 that has no race proven history? I can understand the somewhat dubious and shallow minded loyalty to the BMW brand but I think you guys are living in the realms of fantasy if you think the HP2 could ever be realistically compared with the Ducati or the KTM 1190 for that matter.

HP2 not a proven race bike?
Ok it may not have competed in Motogp. But these HP2's finished 5th and 6th at the Daytona 200 last week.

Plus they completed a season in Endurance racing last year. Finishing in the top ten. And all these bikes were basically stock.

As for the KTM? Where has that raced then?

Give KTM a chance !!

The RC8 only had it's dealer launch 3 days ago !

But they will be racing it this year in the FIM Superstock Championship in a team sponsored by Red Bull.

The RC8s will be racing against other twins such as the 1098s and I4 1000s such as the GSXR 1000s.

Don't forget,as well as the HP2 Sports did at Daytona, they were racing against and losing to I4 600cc bikes !!!

And there are plans afoot to race the KTM RC8R in WSB in 2009.

I don't think we'll see the HP2 Sport in mainstream racing if it can't even beat four strokes of half it's capacity !!

Great bike though.

Yes, I'll grant that they were racing 600cc fours at Daytona, but they were full race 600's producing 160bhp. The HP2's were totally stock exept for a race pipe!!!:rob :handbag

However. In World Endurance, they were racing and beating factory 1000cc fours......and where were the Ducati's??:augie

That KTM in Red Bull Colours is pretty though:cool: :thumb

Come on guys,

chuck your rose tinted specs in the bargain basement bin.:shout

How the hell can you compare a HP2-son of the R1200s sports tourer, that is selling so badly BMW are almost giving them away, with a unique peice of motorcycle racing history, that is unbelievably available for the road (at a price).:handbag

Get over it, there is no comparison :duno

Yonky,

Yes they did ok at the Le Mans 24 Heure, but interesting that in the Youtube clip you posted above, the only bike that gets overtaken is the HP2 Sport !!

Whitegloss,

So what deals are BMW doing on the bikes now then ?

The HP sport is a lovely looking thing. I had a Boxer Cup Replika which was a brilliant real world bike. My mates with R1`s SP2`s etc had a hard job keeping up on roads so I`m sure the HP sport will be similar.

Should never, never, never have sold it:blast:blast

As with Arsey8, I would be interested in knowing what deals are on offer! Oh god, I can feel a trip to my dealer coming up:D

I do love the look and style of the HP2 Sport.

But I don't agree with you about the BCR.

I had one briefly and it was a big disappointment.

It was very stable and handled quite nicely but was so lacking in power.

I got it for a very good price but really struggled to sell it and just got most of money back.

RC, not only did they race at Le Mans, they won at Le Mans, it also won its class in the endurance series. It had to be heard at the circuit.. the noise was fantastic.

I think the reason behind the price tag is a lot of the one off stuff that is all over the bike, footrests on an index system, the Carbon subframe is a work of art, the billet top yoke detail is incredible and if you spend a bit of time going round it looking at it you can (possibly) see where 14k would go, its not a mass produced machine, I think they are only making a limited run.

The KTM has wowed the press at its launch, and no doubt co's you have one waiting... its a great bike.. but, its yet to win anything other than admiring glances..:mmmm

hope that you get over your op pretty soon and get out on the bike fella..:beerjug:

Actually I agree with you.

But I think if you bought an HP2 Sport it would need to be a keeper as all that exquisite stuff bolted on probably won't be reflected in the second hand value (hopefully,as I would love to get one in a couple of years).

I'm much better now-just grounded from flying for about another month.

RC8 demo should finally be here today/tomorrow and my bike sometime in April.

:thumb2

I think thats the way of it.. be great to buy one that some suit has had in the garage and not used eh? I did that with my BCR.. ended up with a bargain that I kept for five years and then sold at a good price.

RC8 was impressive at the bike show; it has to be said that that for a small company KTM have really pushed themselves, a mate of mine works for Magura in Germany, he says some of the stuff they have coming soon is fantastic..

Enjoy the bike when it comes.

Not so small !!

They made over 100,000 bikes in 2007.
I read somewhere that if it keeps going the way it is,within about 4 years KTM will overtake BMW as the biggest European motorcycle manufacturer.

Well I’m well chuffed now.:D

The MCN comic has confirmed what I was told by BMW. That the UK allocation of 60 HP2S’s has been sold. Any one ordering one now, won’t get it till next year.

That means that if I did want to sell it now (which I don’t) I would at least get what I paid for it, if not more:eek:.

BTW I rode may mates new KTM 990SM today (he traded in his 950SM :cool:for it).
That thing is bonkers. It just wants to wheelie in the first 3 gears. However, the fuel injection is very on/off and snatchy, which made it very difficult to ride smoothly. Especially when exiting a bend. Personally I preferred his old 950SM which had Carbs.:blast

Arsey

Shame you didn`t think the BCR had the power. I`ll admit it wasn`t an R1 but I had the laser exhaust and powerchip and it was enough for me to have a ball.

The HP sport must be the pinnacle of the boxer engine and won`t live with others but boy, it`s a cracking bike and I`d love one!! Yonkyo, you are one lucky dude!

Mind you the RC8 is a beast.....

At least we love the European take on the sports bike and not the japanese stereotype!

Viva la differance:thumb

Mine had Lasers and was chipped to.

It was still as flat as Keira Knightley.
