Thats good news about the servicing costs. The HP2 goes in for the first services next Thursday. I'm expecting a bill for circa £140.

Good luck with test ride....shame you cant try a HP2 though.

Oh yes. Changing the subject; my mate Glen's got a bitch on because his KTM990A wasn’t in my pictures:blast. So here's one for you mate. :thumb

Nice !!!

There are some great roads around the Beacons.

It's bloody good that BMW have got the FI fully sorted.
That's the one minor glitch that I would level against the KTM RC8 that I've just ridden, having got one on order and due in the next month.

It's good to see that both manufacturer's are trying to cater for the real world, with good adjustability of riding position.

I think it helps that the average German and Austrian isn't built like the average Japanese tiny person.

I know what you mean about nowhere to store stuff.

KTM came up with this option, which is a 10 litre tail pack that just clips to the rear in place of the pillion pad :

I'm sure Baglux will do something for the HP2S in time.

Or how about Bags-Connection ? They don't actually list the HP2S on their website, but if the HP2s has the the standard BMW 6 screw cap, then it should fit your bike :

I'm pleased that you are liking the HP2S so much.

I would have been very tempted myself but the local BMW dealer is not very good and there may well be a change soon, whereas the local KTM dealer is a mate.

It'll be interesting to see these real-world sports bikes in a head to head in one of the mags in coming months.

Thats a smart looking tail bag!!

Hello peeps

Here’s Just a brief progress report. Jeeez, when is this shite weather gunna break.:(

Current Mileage: 700

The first service was duly done last Friday by BRM. Thankfully they didn’t need any special parts. So it was ready in a few hours and at a reasonable cost of just over £100.:)

They also did a recall upgrade to the ECU software, which apparently addresses issues with the ‘Anti-Knock System’ and also “Enhances”??! the ‘Gear Shift Assist’.

So I picked the bike up from BRM and set off home. Only to discover that the Gear Shift Assist, now wasn’t working at all:blast. So I turned around and headed back to the shop.

The Tech and the service manager both had a look, but couldn’t find a solution or explanation as to why it now didn’t work. They even tried phoning BMW UK for advice. But unfortunately for me, the HP2S Tech expert was on holiday…bugger:blast.

Anyhow, I rode the bike home, just using the conventional clutch gear shifts, which really annoyed me - Not that using the clutch is difficult, no the conventional gear shift is excellent – But because I’d been so totally captivated by the brilliant Shift Assist system. I just felt a bit short changed.

Sunday came, the snow melted and the sun came out, so it was compulsory to meet the boys for a quick blast down to Fowlers Café. As I rode off on the HP2S, I tried the Shift Assist again a few times, sadly to no avail. Then, after about 15 mins, I was changing up the box and when I pulled the clutch in, the engine misfired and spluttered a few times, then cleared.

I don’t know what made me try the Shift Assist again, but when I did, it worked fine and continues to work faultlessly so far:D.

As to why Shift Assist disappeared and the came back, is a mystery. But I sure did miss not having it.

Oh yes, I’ve also fitted a cute little tank bag, which came in useful for some emergency shopping at Tesco’s.

I thought all boxers required the valves to be checked on first service which requires a cold engine - is it different on the HP2

Tank Bag

Yonkio,
The weather should be improving soon...and at least you have your HP2S to ride!
Regarding the tank bag, it appears to be made for the bike, but can it be removed easily? The picture looks as if the gas tank screws are holding it in place.
Cheers,
John

You are exactly right about the valve check. I’d actually dropped the bike off at the dealer the previous night. So the engine was cold when they checked the valves.
Luckily mine were fine and didn’t require any new Hemisphere’s (which they would have needed to order from Germany:eek).

Yes, the bag is indeed specifically for the HP2S.
It is simply secured by Velcro strips on the brackets attached to the tank.
Crude but simple. Vorsprung durch Technik:rolleyes:

OK, I dig it! :P

I hope they make a slightly bigger one for overnighters, but we may have to depend on the "after market" for any such.

BTW, I just received confirmation from my dealer than my bike started production!! I hope to be riding it by late May.

Common as muck now,these:augie:D.

What a superb bit of kit...Enjoy Yonkyo,I'm deeply jealous!:thumb

(That Orange Thing is gonna have to be something special to eclipse this)

Calling Yonkyo...

How's the bike running now that the break-in is done?
Any more issues with the quick shifter?

Still awaiting notice that my bike has shipped.

John

Mine is at Pidcocks, waiting for the Carbon Fibre Handguards,Hugger,Rocker Cover Covers and Engine Front Cover and also either a Full Remus System with Carbon Hexacone Can or a set of Headers that will mate with the OE Akropovic can but do away with the Cat.

John believe me, it’s worth the wait.

I’ve haven’t had chance to get out much, so I’ve only done 800 miles so far.

However, the more I ride this bike, the more I’m falling in love with it. It is a truly fantastic sporty road bike. It handles all types of roads brilliantly and has super smooth and grunty engine, with more than enough top end power to stay with the 1000cc Jap missiles on the straight bits.

Speaking of top end performance. So far I’ve only taken her up to 150mph in 5th gear (on a private road officer) but there was plenty more to come. I estimate she’ll do an indicated 175-180mph and if the HP2S’s digital speedometer is as accurate as my GS’s, then that’s plenty fast enough for me.

Still it’s not about silly top speeds on the HP2S, its all about real world rideability and handling, which this bike has in bucket loads.

The gear shift assist system is also still working beautifully, and my riding buddy’s tell me the bike sounds awesome from behind when I change gear.

Actually, the bike is getting a noticeably louder and deeper exhaust note, as I put more miles on the clock…..cool.

Outside Fowlers before our ride out.

Fitted new Ilmburger R1200S carbon Hugger

good to hear your still loving it yonkyo i changed my order for an rc8 to the hp2s and reading round the forums i'm glad i did :)

Good to hear...

Glad you are doing well...just not riding enough. :blast

I want to add a hugger, and the Shift-Tech is more available in the US, but it appears to tight a fit for the 190/55 profile rear tire on the HP2S. It looks like the Ilmburger is a good fit, was a direct bolt on, or did you have to "adapt" it some?

I completely agree with your thinking regarding the real world ride-ability and handling. That's what I'm after.

John
