The Lecht Road - Shut

I thought when I saw the heading................ that it was snowed shut!

Is it for routine works? That is on my route down from Inverness the following weekend, hope it's open by then!

Nice enough diversion via Dufftown and the Cabrach....just need a bit extra time. Don't follow the official signed diversion...take a look at a map!

Thanks for posting - I would most likely have been caught out on my way north in a couple of weeks.

May give some folk a longer way round but still on decent roads. Unfortunately for me, that's my way to work on a Monday morning and home on a Wednesday evening, next week will be the long way round. The biggest problem with going via Craigellachie, Dufftown, etc is the traffic is much, much worse - lot of lorries, slow cars, etc. Distance wise its not a huge amount extra (to Aberdeen).

And I quite enjoy going over the Lecht on near empty roads on Monday mornings

If you use the A93 around the Cairnwell this might be of use:

Road resurfacing works on the A93, north of Spittal of Glenshee, begin on Monday 20 June 2016. The works are scheduled to last 2 weeks and will be carried out under a night-time closure, 8pm to 6am (except for Friday & Saturday when the road will remain open). Local businesses, tourist information centres and Councillors have already been informed of the closure.

Probably means they'll be surface dressing as well, glad I could enjoy it properly yesterday!

I spoke to someone at Aberdeenshire Council roads dept. this morning who said the Lecht roadworks finished early and the road had just reopened.

Yup, it was open first thing this morning. Some new tarmac on the south side and a couple of bits of gravel mainly over the top flatter section

Went up the Lecht a few weeks back heading up to Inverness on a course.
6am. Crystal clear. Not a cloud in the sky. Not a soul around. Stunning....just stunning.

Ahh great, I'm amazed how much I rely on this bit of road being open in the summer!!! Getting to the north west coast from Aberdeenshire and Angus is a pain in the arse by other routes 😎

Google maps has still got the Lecht road as shut, am popping down to Perth (Drysdales - to view the 1290GT...) on Monday and was hoping to take this - more scenic - route. Gerry - any news one way or the other?

Cheers

Andy
