I am allergic to electricity, so please be patient

Looking for some auxiliary lights to fit onto a 2008 GS - it's got no crashbars/lighting bars etc at the moment.

Am intending to improve my visibility on the road - so folk can see me - - but also so that I can see better

Without spending a huge amount of cash, what's the best value options available to me - I believe I've got to fit a power distribution module, something like a Denali Powerhub2 (£60 from ebay)

What lights have folk had success with of late ? I would prefer to avoid names that attract a premium, i pay enough scene tax with my VW van.

I spent a fortune over the years on unbranded Chinese LEDs and they were all rubbish. I dare say there are some good ones out there but I never found any. They were good as marker lights, but rubbish at throwing it out for my benefit. Unfortunately they were all so cheaply built they never lasted at all.

I ended up buying a pair of Rigid Industries Dually D2's and have had them ages on 3 different bikes so far. Not cheap, but not massively expensive either. If they were to break I'd certainly buy another set in a heartbeat.

Am more than happy avoiding cheap chinese stuff - had enough tales of terror from charging cheap chinese bicycle lights, so bought Hope Tech lights for my cycling days - they are awesome. Just looking for something that people use and trust. Will look at the Rigid stuff for sure. Ta

I recently changed the entire headlight assembly to an LED unit (yes, from China). What a difference! It's not instead of aux lights, but it does make you more visible than the shitty OEM candle, even in bright sunlight. And as I discovered in Switzerland earlier this week, light projection at night is also very good - main beam is v impressive. This is all in comparison to the OEM. These headlight units have reduced in price a lot recently.

The fitting does need your attention, but as you'll see below, I sorted it nicely and hope my feedback is useful for others.

An easy and effective option may be to change the original bulbs for LED ones, not sure how this works with that stupid bloody canbus system.

That's another idea. I did actually try this. I tried a bulb that has no fan. At the start of my using it I discovered it would cut out if it got too hot - mostly in slow moving traffic. I 3D printed an air duct for it. Worked a treat.

Would have fitted one to the main beam, but found the whole LED headlight assembly had dropped in price enough for me to take the plunge. It works and I'm super happy with it.
