Just spent a few hours cursing my ineptitude cos I couldn't fit the Nippy Normans hugger to my 1200GSA. Now I'm not a great mechanic but I can bolt stuff on, take stuff off and generally do light chores on the bike. I understood the instructions perfectly but was stumped by a 25mm hex screw.

It's like this - you first have to unbolt the plastic cover that protects the rear brake hose running along the swing/torque arm. This is attached by two 25 mm hex bolts. Got the first one off no problem. Second one - no chance. Could I get my Allen key between the screw head and the wheel rim? Er no.....not in a million years.

After fannying around loosening things that should probably not be loosened to try and get to the screw head I concluded that the only way to do it would be to remove the rear wheel. Which struck me as a) ridiculous and b) unwise cos I haven't a big enough wrench to undo the bolts and c) I've never taken a rear wheel off a GS before..

Can anyone help on this??? It's driving me nuts!!! :bash

Help? Yes, I fitted mine the other day, what you will need is a slightly shorter allen key with which to undo the aforementioned screw. Replacing it then with a hex headed screw from NN.

The best way is to take the wheel off, but if you havn't got the correct size torx socket you are kinda stuffed. Also, are you sure they are allen keys, cos they are torx on my ordinary, boring, little, old, unreliable, worn out 1200GS. :P

The wheel I'm assuming comes away wihout much fuss having loosened all the Torx bolts on the hub?? Only thing is I have the right Torx socket but the socket wrench is a bit pathetic - I'm assuming the torque setting is quite high on thise bolts?

Hmmm - you're absolutely right thinking about - it is another torx screw. Either way I can't get at the thing. Felt a bit daft when I rang NNs as they just said I was the only person ever to ring up with a problem fitting it! Am i really that clueless? I just don't see how you can do it with back wheel the place??

Oh well off to pick up my new ally top box tomorrow :clap so will ask for help then... :help
