I'm a prospective GS owner.

Since all of the nice folk on here have had the benefit of hundreds of collective years of GS ownership, I'd like to pick your collective brains..

If i were to buy a GS for weekend scratching, touring Scotland, and the very occasional greenlaning, which is the perfect model, and what would be your list of after market accessories to look for in a second hand model, or buy & bolt onto a new one?? (I realise that a 'new' one will be either an ADV or a 1200) eg:

GS 1150GS
Anti lock brakes
Becker engine bars
remus Y piece
Heated grips
hand guards
Give 50l top box

etc etc

Cheers!

the only thing it helps, is to let us realise that you wanted to spend money but didn't like the R12.

....... and you have to wonder what was so bad/worn out/broken on his 02 adv that he needed to order an new adv!

Barney, you've got it about right. Try 'em, see which you prefer, then see what deals you can get. Good luck.

My 1100 - cos its smaller than an 1150 and better 'off-road' and just as good on it.

and faster

and red-erer

Agree with Paragon - don't buy new at the moment - there are some excellent 2nd hand 1150 bikes out there as people change up to the 12, well cared-for sunny sunday bikes too. Take a look in MCN. You'd save enough on a new one to buy a purpose built greenlaner as well, probably new!
Good list for starters Barney. If you wanted a Y piece and a remus I'd add a teclusion R259 chip as opening up the exhaust can make it run a little lean. Add a K&N filter at the same time and it'll feel very quick (for a GS:rolleyes: ).
Givi box is good, I bought some 2nd hand BWM panniers as well, thru' this board, keep your eyes on the For Sale and Wanted section.
HTH! :beerjug:
