The PJM rally ?

4. Chris never told me THAT would happen!

Couldn`t you do 6 stages of the DAKAR RALLY on a bike not set up properly and only a two day BMW OFF ROAD COURSE under your belt !

PJM WEEKEND

Well that was fun!! :D

Not many BIG bikes there but good to see a number of GS'ers there. Saturday was cold but dry and the two laps were pretty good going. Not too much in the way of show stoppers for the big boys on their real toys!

Sunday warmed up but that was only due to the non stop rain!. The course was changed and three laps. Big hill climb was optional for the big bikes and would have been REALLY interesting on a twin! Not TOO bad on the Rally bike but was hard enough! Hats of to anyone who attempted it on the bigger brother GS's!

Rained all day and the mist was pretty low for the second lap which made the second timed special stage REAL interesting! there is something un-nerving about being able to see only 30 or so meters infornt of you due to poor viz, but knowing that there is a 200m+ drop on your right hand side certainly keeps you on the edge!!

All in all a very good weekend and a good tester for me on the Rally prior to competing in the Tuareg Rally in Morocco next month.

The only dsiappointing thing for me was hearing that some spiteful barsteward nicked the seat of Chris Emerson's 80 GS on Saturday night. (soory Chris!) No doubt someone thought it would be a jolly hoot - I know what I would do to them if I found them at my bike! :spitfire

Roll on the Red Kite! :thumb

That was really good fun, and I was only timekeeping, not competing :) Well done to all who took part!

I took some photos of people finishing the end of stage two on the Sunday (I was the cold looking marshal in the white van there) so I'll post any good ones when I've looked at them tonight.

I was really sorry to hear about your seat Chris: Marianne said to tell you that if you email her some details she'll make enquiries among the local scrote community.

Thanks for marshalling Clare, I'll lend you my hat next time! You looked soaked after our first lap let alone three. Sterling effort from all the marshalls who were out in the rain yesterday, Thankyou. :thumb

No thanks needed for me, I had a whale of a time! I am one of those weirdos who prefers the rain though.
Big respect to Mouse for finishing, and as far as I am aware riding the optional loop each lap! I'm sure we will have a more detailed report of his weekend soon?
Well done Clare for taking on the timekeeping duties, nowhere near as much fun as travelling marshal, but not as much physical effort required!
Echo the sentiments about the scrote who pinched the seat, we were in the same pub, thankfully our gear was all locked in the trailer, bast*rds!
Mark
(welcome to hell!)

I'm not sure I have the energy to write a blow by blow report of the PJM, suffice to say it was great, marred only by the scrotes vandalising Chris's bike.

I finished all the laps, including the optional part, but I was the last one home on the final lap by quite a long way :) I blame that on the nasty rutted woods section, at one point the ruts were so deep the connector on the bike's throttle position sensor got knocked off, it took me a few minutes to work out why the engine suddenly wouldn't run properly.

I had a couple of offs, once when I bounced into a ditch in front of Chris, much to his amusement, and the second one was coming down the "optional" hill on the Sunday, I got flipped off sideways and landed upside down in a gorse bush. A friendly pogo stick rider picked me up out of that :)

Not much damage to the bike, that I;ve found so far anyway! I need a new gear lever, and there's mud in places I didn't know existed. Apart from the gear lever and a few dents in the bash plate, the 1200 shrugged it all off. Except the mud :)

Oh Yeah Baby - looking forward to this lots!!

I will be on the new toy (well new to me anyway) and will almost certainly be the slowest around the course over the two days. However I do have a list of useable excuses to hand already:

1. I was just getting a feel for the bike.
2. I wanted to set the bike up properly.
3. The bike needs setting up properly.
4. Chris never told me THAT would happen!
5. So that's what that button is for!!!!

For those of you who do not know, I recently purchased the Toy from Chris Emerson (Yes - He of UKGser fame). It is the bike he competed in the 2004 Dakar on. Now in my hands and I am looking forward to using her LOTS! PJM this month, Tuareg rally in Morocco in March, Red Kite etc etc etc. FUN FUN FUN.

ps. Does anyone know how many db's a Remus Titan pushes out? trying to find something more "ear friendly" for the PJM - noise is not really a problem in the desert!!

B A B

You never told us how you got on, on your NEW bike ?
